Hey has anyone got any info on Pittman training regards the legal sec course?

Iv repeatedly asked them how much the course is but they have avoided it saying i have to meet with a course advisor.

Are they recognised and what are the job prospects?

    Thanks.

Ring a solicitor or barrister and ask them if you can shadow their secretary for a few weeks. Probably better experience than a course. There is no formal requirement to have a qualification to practise as a legal secretary

Or look into Office Administration Legal Fetac Level 5. Rathmines College offer it, fees are 460 total..a fraction of what Pitman's will charge. I just completed Office Admin Medical which has lesser prospects but got a part time job out of my work experience and a full time job advertised through my college. Rathmines have a good relationship with employers and follow up with past students needing a job etc. Some parts of the course are just too general but it was definitely worth the 9 months full-time I found.

I had a Pitman's Manual for Legal Secretaries about 20 years ago.

Quite good, except that some of the procedures and layout of forms was UK rather than ROI.

With the growth of wordprocessing, templates, precedents etc many of the layout issues are dealt with automatically.

If you have good word processing, and good English, you would be ok.

Don't rely on the spelling corrector to check your spelling. Use a dictionary for unfamiliar words. There are some funny stories of mistakes not picked up by the spelling corrector.
