Looking forward to buy a second hand BMW 320i 2006 petrol model. It is used 115,000 kms and deal is for 6600 euros.
NCT is valid till Jan 2016.

Can you please advice me if it is a good choice and how much is the maintenance cost for this model?

I beleive the road tax is 710 euros and car insurance will be about 900 euros. Are there any other expenses involved in buying a car in Ireland? I never had a car of my own before so i don't know much about car buying and maintenance.

Any advice/suggestion will be highly appreciated.

I believe that that engine will be a 2.2l so tax 950.

The E90 320i which the OP is probably looking at is 2.0 litre not 2.2 litre.

    Yes, engine is 2.0L.
but is there anything else I am missing out beside 710 tax and insurance money?
Getting another deal for Honda Accord 93000 km used. which one is better interms of maintenance cost? Both are 2.0L

Depends on what your preferences and priorities are. The BMW will be more a driver's car than the Accord, Accord would be more reliable.

    Have you driven either?

no, i have driven toyota corolla only in the past.
never drove any car in Ireland.

I want powerful, yet affordable car.
So you're saying Accord is more reliable? What about its kmpl and maintenance cost please?

    thanks!

There is no such thing as set maintenance costs as it will depend on how each individual car has been maintained up to now. There isn't much in difference in price between Honda parts and BMW parts but the Honda is probably less likely to need them outside of routine servicing and wear and tear.

If the Accord is in Exec Spec I would go for that instead as most 320i e90s Ive seen in Ireland are bottom spec and not very nice looking/good value as a result

Both car have past service records. Although Honda is 2007 model and below 100,000 kms used. BMW 320i is 2006 model and used a little above 100,000 kms. NCT for Honda is valid till Jan. 2015, while for BMW its good till Jan. 2016.
Which one is better in terms of driving and more sturdy?

Yes Accord is Executive and 2007 model, as compared to BMW 320i which is 2006 model. Is it true that both can give 8l/100 km average?

320 will be much better to drive & have better perceived build quality. Accord is like a plastic box by comparison- although I'm sure the Honda people will be on here to tell you otherwise

Statistically, the 320 will be more likely to have bits break :pac:

"bits break" ?? you mean 320 requires servicing more frequently?

Accord looks bigger also but been reading on both cars for few days now. True that BMW is made of steel but ride is hard and Accord you can navigate with just fingers even though its bigger in size :pac:

No, he means you will less likely need to spend money on repairing the Accord over the 3 Series.

And I'd also disagree with the comments around build quality, I owned an E90 3 Series and the interior fit and finish was nothing special, neither were the quality of the plastics if that is a measure of a car to some. As Japanese cars go the Accord is probably the best built in that segment.

    thanks for advice bazz.

what do you say about 2007 Honda Civic 1.8I-VTEC? I noticed Accord will be too big for me.
