Audi A4 clutch and flywheel

    Hi All

I have a 2010 Audi A4 143BHP, I got it serviced yesterday and was told that my clutch is on the way out but that the flywheel will have to be done with this and that the timing belt is due to be done also. I don't mind getting the bad news about the timing belt as that has to be done after certain stages of mileage but the clutch and flywheel is a real kick in the balls. The mechanic did bring me out to the car and showed me the noise difference when engaging the clutch. He didn't give me a quote yet but said it would be ''saucy'' and started to sympathise with me even without giving me a figure which scared me if I'm honest(I don't usually scare easily).

I met a friend of the family that is a local mechanic and he said that there are a few places you could buy the parts myself and have someone fit them, he couldn't remember the names of these places and I don't want to bothering him as he has a very sick family member at the moment and he is under pressure at home.

Does anyone know of and cheap motor factors or auto parts places anywhere I could get these parts cheaper and reliable?

And could anyone give me a rough price so I can at least have a figure to start saving for?

At a good independent garage I would estimate it would cost between €1,300 and €1,600 including parts and labour. I personally would not go down the route of buying the parts separately because if the parts turn out to be faulty for any reason further down the line then you would have no comeback with the garage that fitted them. Whereas if you get the garage to provide and fit the parts you will have proper warranty for any failures.

Shoot George Dalton a PM on here. He's a VAG guru and to be honest I don't think the price will be anywhere near €1,600.

Sachs clutch and flywheel for my '99 Passat were €500 a few years ago (just for the parts). I'd think you could expect similar, if not slightly higher, prices for yours. It's a long enough job labour wise so expect nearly as much again on that side of it.

Sadly, there's little shared labour between this job and the timing belt, so it's going to be expensive.

It's worth noting that the timing belt schedule aligns with the regular service schedule so it's probably not going to be due for another while. I'd suggest having the two jobs done separately to soften the blow.

I haven't fitted one myself before but a quick gander at the prices listed for the flywheel and clutch kits on Micksgarage coupled with the timing belt needing to be done and €1600+ is likely.

    Hi Everyone

Thanks for all the replies it is a big help to give me an idea of what's involved, I got a price of 1600 for clutch, flywheel and timing belt parts and labour in Cork where I live and 950 for the clutch and flywheel parts and labour in Kilkenny where I'm from which I visit regularly, I don't think that the timing belt will cost over 600 from my Kilkenny mechanic.

Does this sound good to people?

Make sure either mechanic has the correct locking tools to do the timing belt. If they don't it's a waste of money having it done there.

Ballpark prices would be €950 for clutch and flywheel and €450 for timing belt kit, water pump, coolant and alternator belt.
