Standard earphones (no mic) in Huawei Y300.

I recently started using the Y300 at work where I often use noisy machinery. On my phones until now I've been able to use standard earphones that fit neatly under my Peltor ear protectors so that I can listen to music and hear/answer the phone when it rings, keeping the earphones in and speaking through the mic on the phone.
However with the Y300 I can hear the caller but they can't hear me, so I have to disconnect the earphones and use the phone normally. Is there a workaround or do I have to use earphones with a built in mic?
If I have to use earphones with a built in mic can anyone recommend a set that fits snugly in the ear and don't have a long stem to the cord that would affect the seal on the Peltor ear protectors?

Yeah you need a set with a mic, I can't recommend the ones from the HTC one enough for work, they are so cheap I bought 4 for spares and the sound quality is great, and they have a built in mic and button. The cable is also flat so it would suit your application.
