    surely this is something to get excited about (well I think so!) very similar to the 1999 eclipse with over 90% of the sun obscured. You would need to go to Svalbard in the Arctic Ocean to get 100% totality though. All we need is the weather to cooperate, not much to ask for in Ireland!

    edit: by the way, eclipses of over 90% are very rare in Ireland, the next one is Aug 12 2026 and after the one after that will be witnessed by our grandchildren on Sept 23 2090.
