I decided to cancel sky and just stick with my freeview stations the only thing is that i can`t record, pause etc,so basically i was looking for someone to recommend a freeview box to do all this,i was looking at one there on the internet, the Humax HDR box but i think that`s only good for the uk and northen ireland......cheers

Its called freesat :) Freeview is DTT, like Saorview

Any freesat box will work here, you just have to select a regional variation (so when you watch BBC and ITV you can watch the local version if in the UK) obviously here if you really want to watch fiddle music at 10 pm instead of a sitcom you can put in a Northern Ireland postcode.

    Humax Freesat+ HDR PVR box.

Actually apart from one radio station (only on EPG on London Post code), I think different regional variations just swap EPG positions according to Post Code.

A Freesat branded box will be the easiest one to use, as it will do all the updates automatically, meaning you will always have all the channels.

I have owned the Humax HDR for approx 4 years now, its a great box, never let me down.

TBH them Humax are the best on the market, however they were designed for the uk market. for watching TV they are a good solid reliable box. But wheres the fun in that?

when you cancel sky, all you'll have is a sat dish with twin feeds running to your stb. you'll still be able to get a few channels, but you can't change the order they are in, plus you have no way of getting saorview.

if you want to be up and running with saorview and freesat i think this kit maybe what you want

you will not be able to record on the sat and watch another sat channel at the same time, however you can contact the seller and get an upgrade on the set top box.

the only reason i'd go for the AA2+ over the SAB box is the fact the AA2+ is a DVB-T2 box. the SAB is not... yet.

once you have your box and antenna installed, just get a kickass image and get the tsmedia plugin. HDMU do the best images plus they do great support for the plugins, i can send you my image to get you started, everything is done apart from time shift, i hate that. plus you have to scan the saorview channels as you'll have a different transmitter than me.

the fact that you had sky means your in a great position to take advantage of the freesat/saorview combo as most people only run one cable to their main tv when you really need a minimum 2 and/or a way to get your antenna signal down too.

I prefer two boxes. There is NO Freesat/Saorview combo. It's a Generic Sat receiver.

I see the OP in from Co Louth, maybe with the correct aerials pointing at Clermont Carn and one of the NI transmitters together with a Saorview or FreeviewHD TV and a FreeviewHD PVR (for recording) the OP will have access to the Saorview and Freeview channels throughout the house.

The Panasonic PVRs allow the Saorview and Freeview channels to be stored and reordered as required unlike the Humax terrestrial PVRs.
