Police Clearance from Spain- form 790

    Hey guys,

I've been short listed for a job (yay!) and had to fill out a garda vetting form at the interview. I got a call back last week to say that as I lived in Spain for a year while in college, I would need to 'get in touch with Spain' and ask for a cert- so far, so straightforward.

I downloaded a form just known as 'form 790' which I have to fill out and send away with a certified copy of my passport. After trying to get help from my university, the Spanish embassy here and the department of foreign affairs, I am almost ready to just give up.

    1.
The form, although it is written in English, is really confusing.

    2.
I don't know exactly what is needed for the copy of my passport- I've got it signed and stamped by a solicitor but the dept. also certify documents for a fee of €40, and the guy there told me I have to find out from the authority to which it is being sent if it needs to be stamped by then, or if what I have will do. I don't have €40 to be spending on a stamp for a job I mightn't even get, especially if I don't actually need it!

    3.
I've already been to the bank and paid the €3.66 fee to the office in Madrid for processing it, but now I see that the 3rd page of the form has a space for a stamp from wherever the fee is paid. I now don't know if I was supposed to go to a specific bank or what the story is.

Anyway, I'm hoping that someone will have been through this before (although hopefully not in such a frustrating way!) and would be able to help me.

Apologies as well if this is in the wrong forum, it's been a while :-)

Seriously any help at all would be hugely appreciated, you're my last hope guys!!!

Did you need the third page after all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 369 ✭✭tradhead

Yes, you need to fill in the third page the same as the other two, and attach proof of payment from the bank. If you can get them to stamp the blank space, great, but some banks won't and I think proof of payment is enough.

I went to bank, they wouldnt stamp anything. I paided the fee online through quick transfer and printed the receipt. Do I just sent the copy for the administration or do i also need to send the copy for the collaborating entity?
P.S thanks for all your help so far! :)

You need to send the copy for the administration, the copy for the collaborating entity, the receipt for your bank transfer of €3.70 and the certified copy of your passport.

No bother, I was freaking out last year trying to find somebody to help me and found it very hard! Hope you get sorted with it :)

Hi i'm now in same predicament. Have job offer and need to get clearance from spain. Contacted spanish embassy in dublin which have been no help at all. I can see a download for the 790 form on the ministry for justice website but it would only appear to be a sample form not for use as it has a receipt number already captured in the form and you need to provide your own receipt for proof of payment.
Which bank did you use for the transfer? Was it accepted? Did you get the cert? How long did it take?

I don't remember downloading the form as the problem. I went to Bank of Ireland, my own bank and I sat down with a guy and did the transfer of the €3.70 online. It was less hassle than I thought. I think it arrived within 2 weeks. You'll also have to get it translated, which could cost 50-60 euro because everything needs to be in English.

for future reference, don't fill out the form with an address outside of Ireland. Just make sure all your dates match up for your Irish addresses. No on will ever know. Ive lived in a number of different places which I don't recall the addresses of, so just leave them off. Getting clearance for Ireland can take long enough without the added hassle of other countries

To download, simply go to this website: ww.mjusticia.gob.es/cs/Satellite/Portal/en/servicios-ciudadano/tramites-gestiones-personales/formulario
Click on the blue link in the first paragraph: Model 790-006 (download).

Not at all, I don't know where your are getting that from?

There is also no way anyone can find out how many addresses you have lived at, it is impossible. Also it is not a crime to fill out a form incorrectly, intentionally or not

@RoseofClare thanks! The ministry website was throwing me off cause it gave a warning 'don't use this form as numbers need to be unique' but I think that warning comes up in error. Checked it and each time I download the ref number changes.
@Dar100 it crossed my mind that maybe I shouldn't have listed the Spanish addresses :) but I don't think I would have gotten away with that cause the CV I submitted for the job mentions my time in Spain.
Have my certified true copy if passport from solicitor. Form filling this weekend and then bank on Monday so hopefully i'll get this sorted soon. :)

Just on the subject of translation- I wouldn't go to the bother of doing this unless you're specifically asked for it, the HR dept in the job I got literally just filed it away even tho nobody could read it! If you do need to get it translated tho, make sure to shop around for a quote as prices can vary hugely.

Meant to post sooner to say thanks for all the pointers. My cert arrived after 3 weeks or so. I know some people got theirs sooner. The easter Bank holiday may have delayed it. I didn't get it translated as company didn't request it.

Hi guys, I'm finding myself in the same situation that you were in. The process seems straight forward enough, but I have a question about the certification of your identity card (driver's licence or passport). did you have to your documents notarized bty a solicitor or notary, or did you get it apostilled by the department of foreign affairs and trade? Or did you have to do both? I'm hoping that is not the case that would set me back 80 euros in total!

I got my documents notarised by a solicitor- I had to the Department to check with them if that's what was needed and they had no clue, I'm sure I wasn't the first person in that situation in the country but they were useless! The solicitor I went to didn't charge me (I'm from the sticks! :) ) but if you ring around a few places local to you, you shouldn't have to pay more than 10-20 euro.

Thanks! Also, where did you get the payment done? Boi want to charge me 25 eur to send 3.7 eur!

Thanks Fred, is that what you did? Im apprehensive as they ask for the "justificante original" of the payment. Did you just print off a screeshot of the transfer?

Hey i was just wondering how you got on with the bank transfer, did you just send a copy of your banking payment log, also what reference did you put on the narrative?

Im in a similar situation, i couldnt leave any gaps on my application and now they are looking for a police cert from spain which im guessing on the form it will look for addresses in spain and I havent a clue, its been over 11 years since i lived there. i should of just left out the spain part on my cv
