    Hi all,

A few days ago I build my first system as follows (against the advice of people here!)

    Asrock fatality fx900 motherboard
    fx8350 cpu
    Coolermaster Evo 212 cooler
Case with 120mm fan in front, 80mm fan at rear

All went well, and i'm very happy with the system but am SLIGHTLY concerned about temperature.

The CPU idles between 32 and 35 degrees when booted into windows. The CPU fan at this temp is 660rpm

I ran prime95 for 15 minutes and the temps went instantly up to 63 and stayed there for the duration of the test. The CPU fan is at 1600RPM at this stage. When I stopped it the temp went down to about 38 and stayed there.

All these temperatures were reported in HWmonitor, and taken from the CPUxxx field, which was the highest temp.

I think I may have used slightly too much thermal paste. It ever so slightly oozed out the side of the CPU when I applied the heatsink on top.

Do you think if I removed, cleaned, and re-applied slightly less paste I would get better results, or should I just leave it be?

I will be using the pc for media transcoding so the processor will be getting a bit of a work out. Nothing too heavy though!

    Ken

It sounds like there is a little too much on there but temps aren't too bad.
I would wipe it clean and try re mounting with just a small pea sized dot in the center.

When you put the cooler back on the weight should spread the grease around and fill out the center with a paper thin layer which is all it really needs.
