Seriously, this could be a thing!

however, be warned, its highly illegal and could have you given a lovely big fine.

why would you take a selfie when voting?

    prize for best selfie.

It ranks aside the usual "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'm taking a picture of myself in a polling sation/toilet/exam/concert. What am I like???? Soooooo random and a bit of a mad b*stard!!! MEGA LOLZZZ" photograph.

No. Mr/Mrs Selfie, you are a bit of a plank.

Why is acceptable for our politicians to bring in a camera crew and a ton of photographers for a cheap publicity stunt. But unacceptable for an ordinary person to take a selfie? To me it seems ridiculous.

Have you ever seen a camera follow someone into the polling booth?

Is it actually illegal? I think the fear is that someone will post a picture of someone else's marked polling card. Hence the ban.

If people had to take a mandatory intelligence exam before being allowed to vote, this type of thing wouldn't be an issue.

Or even their own. There's voter coercion issues that guaranteed ballot anonymity goes some way to protecting against. Allowing people to take a picture of their ballots (or that of anyone else) removes this protection.

Only about 1% of the population would be voting then. Quotas would be very low and RTE would get fierce annoyed that they couldn't spend a whole day reporting on vote tallies.

Any polling booths I have seen in Ireland are literally a table with 2 sides. It's hardly the most confidently setting

I might do a "tribute" to Sinn Fein's Noleen Reilly in the polling booth and then post in on xHamster.

All other forms of selfies are for amateurs though.

Councillor in Cork has taken a photo of his own vote, flipping eejit, he's trying to start a trend apparently.
