When should I hear back about interview?

went for a retail interview yesterday, shop assistant, went very well and the interviewer seemed impressed and told me so at the end, which was great to hear. I stupidly forgot to ask when I would hear from them and they never mentioned it. I haven't heard anything yet and I was interviewed yesterday morning. Is that common practice for a shop to wait a few days. I know yesterday was the last day of interviews.

    1 - 2 weeks normally, I think. I've waited 2 months on a response before.

Could be two weeks. Could be the next day. I once had two interviews the same day. The first one was a much more preferable job. I was in a taxi on the way to interview two when I got a call asking me when I can start. I told them to call me in a few day as I was already considering another offer, they upped their offer. :D

thanks for the replies, I was very happy with the interview and was complimented on my CV and told it was a very good interview. I think I'm feeling a bit paranoid though the waiting is awful

It really depends on the job and company the last company I worked for hired me straight away during the interview,My current employer took about a week before asking me to go for a medical at this rate I thought it would be another week waiting they called me that evening asking me to start the following morning.

You're trying to read the minds of the decision makers. :pac:

You can't do that and we can't do that...

You just gotta be patient. If you don't hear anything by next Friday, give them a ring.

Relax and try to be patient. Pick a time period (a week is normally good) and just leave it sit until then. If they haven't gotten back give them a quick call back to enquire about it. There's loads of things that can slow down a hiring process do you just have to wait it out.

I honestly think its the height of rudeness if a company doesn't get back to you after an interview. Its common courtesy to let a person know as soon as possible.

That's not what I'm referring to. I agree that employers should communicate with candidates after a decision is made but in the real world the recruitment process isn't always fast.

True but I've had real world examples where I have not heard back period and have had to ring myself to find out...Its just frustrating as these companies advocate quality customer client services in their interviews and then they don't even bother to to send a 2 second email knowing how difficult and stressful it is looking for employment in Ireland 2014...Its incompetence at its best and ignorance at worst

The rudest experience I ever had had, was a company I applied for, I thought the interview went very well. I was told I would hear back regardless within the week. Didn't hear anything at all, so the next monday I rang back inquiring about my application. I was told the interviews were still taking place but that I would hear by the end of the week. I was never called about it. Ironically I ended up with living with someone who got the job in the end and it had been given before the interviews ever started apparently.
