Put up emef diamond here a month ago. He's out again today after being a nr a couple weeks back, amateur takes a handy few pounds off and is strong in the market for a trainer whose horses tend to improve for the run so I'm going to back him again today at 8\1 good wood.

    3.15 Goodwood

    Riptide 33/1

This is a bit of a flyer but I think Michael Scudamore's 8 year old looks a big price at 33/1. Twice a winner on the flat over an extended 17f at Pontefract last season, Riptide's latest win came back in September last year when absolutely bolting up by 10L on quick ground (admittedly in what was probably a poor race) off a mark of 75 an racing here today off just a 5lb higher mark he still looks feasibly treated with Willie Twiston Davies taking a handy 3lb off. Since then, he was understandably outclassed in a 4 runner Conditions event at Pontefract before he rounded off 2013 when pulled up over fences. He made his reappearance 18 days ago at Salisbury on soft ground over 14f and I think there was enough against him to suggest that wasn't his optimum showing and he should definitely strip fitter for that run for which the handicapper has dropped him 2lb. Although he's having his first run at Goodwood, his 3 wins have come at sharp tracks so he should be suited by this unique track and I think a mark of 80 certainly looks feasible. With trainer Michael Scudamore in fine form with 3 winners from his last 6 and a good draw in stall 4, I've certainly seen a lot worse 33/1 shots than Riptide and hopefully he can run a big race at a price that is simply far too large.

Did not know it was raining at Goodwood and times suggest the ground it soft. Not the greatest news for Riptide.

ground is very soft . They were walking at the finish of the 2.40 even after a slow pace.

Bloody wish I had known about the rain. Was never going to do anything on ground with give. Held up for a horse who never is said it all.

I like this. Ran well over 1M two races back in a competitive grade 2.
