The Vu duo has 2 tuners solo has one, it also has a faster processor and more internal memory which makes the box run quicker, however the duo is an old box and has been replaced with the Ultimo and duo +. The solo has also been replaced with the solo+ which has 2 tuners..

The amiko alien is a cheaper box that has 2 tuners and alike the vu range u can add a third tuner mostly for terrestrial use such as the saorview but again it is not as good as the vu range but a well supported and highly popular box espcially for the price. Most vu can have an internal 2.5 inch hard drive fitted however I think the solo is an external usb powered drive but I may be wrong on that.. the amiko aliens can have a usb connected drive externally fitted.

Another worthy contender and often overlooked is the Gigablue range. I myself have the Gigiablue quad 800 which is dual tuner and can have a terrestrial tuner fitted, it isnt much more expensive than an amiko alien but much faster and more reliable....The gigablue quad and just released quad+ can have an internal drive fitted as well.

Gigablue & Vu boxes has the vix image released for it which in my opinion is the best out there... the aliens have a number of enigma2 images but none are as good as vix...but for the prices the boxes are not a bad piece of kit.

If you want to be able to record one channel whilst watching another you really need a dual tuner machine....

    hope that helps somebit...

Welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy your stay. What are you trying to ftp to your Amiko Alien receiver? Also is it a dual tuner or Triple Tuner Alien?

Go to first page of this thread to install spark plugin that's required to install enigma 2,Ignore most of first page, you just need this section:

"Then you need to install the e2upgrade plugin, it's available here in this pack. Extract the plugin to your desktop and use Filezilla to connect to your box and copy both the bin and keys folders to the /root/plugin/var directory (overwrite). You'll find the IP of your box under System-->Net setting-->ipconfig, the default FTP login on Spark is username "root", password: "root".

then go to last page and follow my instructions to install image.
