Question for 2fm is where they go from here ? Despite Healy's changes, breakfast is failing badly, drive time failing badly and Tubridy is hemorrhaging listeners. With flagship shows crucial to the station's fortunes performing so poorly and with the station still bereft of an identity and credible music policy, what lies in store for the national youth radio station.. Realistically will 2FM see its 36th / 37th birthday ? Im inclined to think no.

Never saw a dog get to its 35th birthday.
    Time to put it down.

Leaving aside all the complaints about where 2FM is now, etc. etc., it should mark its 35th Birthday. 2FM could have special programs and possibly with some former 2FM presenters. It certainly could have a social function with people from its past as well as present.

Incidentally, here are just some of the ex-2FM (or Radio 2) staff in different radio stations.
    Radio 1: Ronan Collins
    Lyric FM: Marty Whelan
Today FM: Ian Dempsey, Tony Fenton, Jim O'Neill and Philip Cawley
4FM: Gareth O'Callaghan and Enda Murphy
    FM104: "Jim-Jim" Nugent
    98FM: Brian McColl (Nails Mahoney)
    Spin103: Nikki Hayes
Clare FM: Michael McNamara (I think he is with them anyway)
    Q102: Scott Williams
    Radio Nova: Dave Redmond
Southeast Radio: Dave Redmond (again!) and Alan Corcoran
    East Coast FM: Declan Meehan
    WLR: Geoff Harris
.... and let's not forget Newstalk: Pat Kenny (used to present an album program on Saturday evenings)

Then there are the ones who stopped presenting regularly like: Hugh O'Brien, Mike Maloney, Gerry Wilson, Liam Quigley and Suzanne Duffy.

They used to mark the birthday every year in some way up until the mid 2000's.

I doubt many people care any more including the people who work there.

I remember them making a big deal about it in the mid-1990's. It must have been their 15th birthday, but anyway, they did an all day Radio-TV simulcast with RTE2 on the day itself (when that kinda thing was all the rage - remember the Beatbox?!).

As the previous poster said, I'd say no one cares anymore. Back then, the station was still staffed with a lot of the original lineup...

It is on a Saturday, so will Larry be given the green light to play some proper oldies?

    It's my 35th the same day-out I go!

Think it was the 16th they did a thing on tv, they had me on hold at home for 45 minutes, to go on air with them but time ran out-I was to be last, cause I was born the day they started. All I got was a lousy tshirt. Maybe when we are 40 I'll get a mug

In 1994 15 years, that was the tv special for 3 hours live from the studios. Have it on vhs. Later that evening on tv, there was a game show 'Radio maze' which was a treasure hunt type thing with 2 teams (including a young damien farrelly and breffni clack as contestants) around the radio centre. also have that on vhs.

You should look into making a digital version of that VHS, throw it up on YouTube or something. I think it'd be cool to watch. :)

The problem with 2fm is I think they don't know whether to be a 35 year old acting 18, or get a sensible haircut, trousers and shoes.

So in answer to your question I think 2fm have stopped counting and no one really cares anymore.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

It will happen iRadio soon, get me my walking stick!

If it is like their TV counterpart the will not celebrate their 35th.

I am surprised they didn't just revert to RTÉ Radio 2 in 2004 like RTÉ TWO

I remember around the time of the launch of radio 2fm , i was a vey young kid , the djs from 2 fm were setup in a booth at the spring show in RDS , I remember mullets all round , remember seeing Gerry Ryan , Marty whelan, dave fanning and I think Gerry grealish , they were like stars at the time ,with a big security presence around the booth and everyone crushing around the booth to Ask to "play a request" ..innocent times , also just found out the last spring show was in 1992 , it was a big thing for culchies at the Time

I noticed at least one mistake in that Indo article. Declan Meehan could not have been in his early '20s in 1979 as his pirate experience went back to 1966 when he was already a teenager! He must have been in his late '20s.
