Very reliable in petrol version but go for the 1.6 as the 1.4 is lifeless and thirsty.

1.6 petrol owner. No major issues to speak of, think I'd to get the reverse switch changed last year (which was apparently a pain to do) but nothing major has happened.

I would nearly go one more and say a 2.0 ltr if you could find one!!!
As for the 1.4 gutless and does drink petrol!

But go for the higher, comfort i think, spec.

    Seats have more support.

Other then that having owned one since 2007 I've never had mechanical issues with it, normal service has being all we have needed to get done so far!

A work colleague has a 08 1.6 petrol he bought new. He never had a minutes bother with it. Tax is on the high side, fuel consumption in the mid 30's. A good reliable car.

OH has a 2006 1.6 petrol saloon. Owned the last three years. Never a bother with the car.

They always looked overpriced to me compared to petrol.

The 1.6 diesel is the same engine found in the Ford Focus and various other cars, it's a Peugeot/Citroen engine.

I have a 07 1.6 saloon (appear to be very rare, I've only ever seen 1 other). I've had it since March, not worked out the MPG yet but I definitely get more than out of it than my old 1.6 Fiesta which I found surprising.

I had a random rough idle that appeared last week fixed under warranty. Apart from that, I'm very happy with it.

The red dash lights are cool at night!

I don't think the diesels have the same unburstable reputation as the petrols. All the usual troubles egr valves failing, knocking flywheels etc etc. After all it is a Ford engine....
