There was a scheme for people on low incomes who needed to follow a diet for special medical purposes but it was discontinued earlier this year. See here: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/supplementary_welfare_schemes/diet_and_heating_supplements.html

I think you can only claim tax relief on coeliac and diabetic diet products. Disability allowance is only applicable if you are unable to work long term due to your condition.

Have you spoken to your doctor or the nurse specialist treating you? The nurse specialist should be able to advise what supports are available or refer to a medical social worker if necessary.

If you contracted Hep c here in Ireland , there is a quite a lot a bit of support through HSE services including support officers , I'm not sure there is any or much services for individuals who contracted it abroad.

Just read this post and one of the replies needs clarification. The Diet Supplement Scheme was discontinued in early 2014 but people can still apply for a supplement towards the extra cost of a special diet if they are on the lowest Social Welfare rates and if their diet costs more than a normal diet. I don't think that Hep C has such a diet associated with it, but coeliac disease does and it is more commonly called the gluten-free diet.
