Ulster Bank/Royal Bank of Scotland.

Mortgage defaults - or indeed any mortgage problem - with Ulster Bank is now being passed up the line to Royal Bank of Scotland. Does anyone know if discussions with UB/RBoS take place under Irish Law or UK /Scottish Law ?

In other words are mortgage holders with Ulster Bank covered by Irish Consumer Protection Laws despite having to telephone RSoS in Scotland ?

AFAIK, Ulster Bank have outsouced the call center to Edinburgh, but you should still be dealing with Ulster Bank...

We are. It's complicated it seems. Dublin pass on to Edinburgh. New agreements made are made with the Arrears Support Unit which has moved to Scotland; it's definite that a (your) bank manager here can't help; only refer to the unit in RBoS.
Further complication is that from experience the ASU promise to confirm details by mail but don't.

Does anyone know if Irelands Consumer Protection Laws can be ( have ever been ? ) invoked in these areas ?

OK…further complication ! MARP will not take our case because they're precluded from doing so by the fact that we're not in default. UB has found a " mistake ' in our contract. Basically they're saying we should not have been on an interest only mortgage, even though we have proof of a meeting whereby we were given a verbal ok to continue on Int only. All billing from then onwards was as per Int only. This was, according to them a " mistake ". But surely even a verbal contract followed by evidence- because of the billing method- has standing in law ??
