Hi there I am just wondering does anyone know for sure are mature students entitled to JSA allowance over the summer? I have been reading and hearing a lot of conflicting theories. And would the fact I am studying in England make a difference? I would like to go home for a while but chances of finding work where I'm from are thin on the ground.

Hard to say to be honest. You would probably have to go through HRC depending on how long you have been abroad. 1 of the questions on the form is how long you intend to stay in Ireland. You also have to prove that you are looking for and are available for full time work in addition to sattisfying a means test (assuming you have no work record).

You would probably be classed as a holiday case and disallowed going by the information that you have provided. Nothing stopping you from making a claim though to find out for sure.

How long have you been studying in the UK and when did you last live in Ireland fulltime.

If you are returning to study full time in the Autumn, then , no, your not entitled to any Jobseekers payment in the Summer.
You are absolutely right, there are no jobs to be had here, you are st an advantage over students in Ireland in that you will find it a lot easier to pick something up over there for the few months. Good luck.

Since September lived in Ireland all my life before that.

Hey, I'm a mature student in Ireland just finished my first year and I'm wondering if I'm entitled to anything? I've never been on the social before and I paid my own fees last year. Lost my part-time job few months ago so money is getting tight at this stage

You may be. You won't be disqualified on the basis of your studies resuming in the Autumn but you have to satisfy all the other qualifying conditions.

JA Disqualification - course of study

The legislation also provides that a person shall be disqualified from receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance while attending a course of study (including school/college holiday periods), except in such circumstances as may be prescribed. The exceptions to this disqualifications are :
persons aged 21 years or over who have been in receipt of JA/ JB for at least 6 months and who are participating in approved courses of education, training or development (as per above), and
mature students, i.e. persons over 23 years of age on or before 1st
January in the year in which the course of study commences.

Deciding Officers should note that disqualification while attending a course of study is completely separate from the availability condition. As mature students are exempted from this disqualification, they may be entitled to Jobseeker's Allowance during the summer holiday periods if they satisfy the availability condition in the normal way.

The studying in the UK may be a complication, but mature students in Ireland are not disqualified from claiming Jobseekers in the summers between academic years, provided they meet all other eligibility criteria.

The fact you were out of Ireland for such a short time will be ok for HRC. Apply when you return and bring proof of the date you sat your last exam.

    You should do.
Fill out the form and apply.
Don't mind what the person in the SWO says to you. A lot of the time, half of them haven't a notion of anything.
