Hi, I have applied for the mature student Trinity Access Course and wondered if anyone else has and how they found the application/interview process. And has anyone else has experienced the course already and how did you find it? If you do well, are you pretty certain to get a place on the course you want? I had an interview a few weeks ago and hope to hear in June sometime. Fingers crossed.

I've heard nothing but good things about TAP. I went through the application process and interview too and found it grand, haven't heard anything back yet. There was alot more writing in the application than I thought initially so I was glad I left plenty of time. I found the interviewers put me instantly at ease. I had butterflies that morning for the first time in years!
The staff seem to be really behind the students and will do everything in their power to help you succeed. Their pride in their current and past students was clearly visible at the information morning.
As far as I know you compete for places on whichever courses are relevant to the group of subjects you took. You need to choose Arts, Social Sciences or Science. There will be places on the course for TAP students but if there is only 1 place you need to make sure you have the higher score if somebody else from TAP is competing for that place too.

    Best of luck!

Hi, I just finished the TAP course two weeks ago as a mature student. I had an amazing year and cannot recommend the program highly enough. Good luck with your application!

Thanks guys. Moomat-best of luck to you too. Have you any idea how many people apply for Trinity TAP? And how many interviews they do? I believe we will find out the second week in June. Feels like I have been waiting for ever! I feel 14 again or something :)
Hi Eigenboogle, which pathway did you choose? Are you studying at TCD or one of the affiliated colleges? Did you get a place on the course you wanted for Sept? How did you find it?
I can only go to Trinity as I have been doing a Level 5 elsewhere and I have to show I am progressing in level and the one in Trinity is considered the same as Level 6. I have already been turned down for an interview in TCD for a 3rd level course-well not a no, I got on the waiting list but too far down the list to get a chance. So I am really relying on getting the TAP course. I almost didnt apply-heard about it only a few weeks before closing date!
Would just love to know what I am doing in Sept now at this stage!

I think they said at the seminar that about 150 apply for 75 places (including Whitehall and Pearse) so there's a pretty good chance of getting in.

There has been some changes announced recently to the BTEA regarding progression:
"Applicants who already hold a Level 5 or 6 qualification under the National Framework of Qualifications will now be allowed to undertake further courses of study at either of these levels to further their professional/career development and their overall job prospects;"

    Hi charlie2505,

I did the Science pathway in TAP in TCD. I haven't found out about next year yet. We get our results hopefully at the end of this week. I'm hoping for a first as I am interested in studying medicine next year, or maybe science failing that. We apply through the CAO so there is a few weeks left to avail of the change of mind.

I had an amazing year. It was life changing. That may sound dramatic, but if you went to any of the TAP open days / information mornings over the last few years you would have heard other peoples stories about the course and life before and afterwards. I was an early school leaver and to be honest, even this time last year I would't have imagined being where I am today.

I know what you mean about the waiting around, there was a problem with the online system last year and we didn't find out until the middle of august I think. It was a very long summer! How did your interview go?

What courses did you apply for /what courses are you interested in following on from TAP?
