Tinted sunstrip on windscreen

Hi all.Hoping for some help.I have a 2008 1.4 petrol, bought second hand with loads of extras.I say 'loads of extras' such as chrome, tinted windows, leather etc. However among the 'features' is a sun strip across the top of the windscreen which appears to have come with the car.I think this because the black braid like line around the edge of the windscreen inside and under the rear view mirror is imposed on top of the band of tint i.e the tint strip seems to have been placed on before this black serrated/braid.Not sure if I am describing this item properly ! The reason for all this is that it has just failed the NCT and I am both furious and shocked. It doesn't interfere whatsoever with my vision of the road as I would have to have the top part of my head out through the roof for my eye line to be looking through it.In other words the tint only interferes if I am looking up and out through it at the sky.I have heard of other NCT test centres passing cars with windows almost blacked out and they have failed this because of the strip.Does anyone know the law on this? Thanks

They are illegal. It is also in the NCT manual that you fail the NCT with them.
