A kWh of electricity costs about 20c. If your computer was using exactly 1000W at all times and you were running it for 100 hours a week then it would use €20 worth. Given that that isn't very likely then yes it is crazy.

It's basically impossible. If you were using your computer at 100% load 24/7, then you might just about hit it, outside of that...

lmao 5000w psu. you could run 20 gtx 780 in sli and it wouldn't need that

I doubt those figures to be honest, If you are pulling those kind of charges your house must be connected to the street lighting.

My lamp can power a 1000watt light bulb, but at the moment its only housing a 5watt LED bulb. I must be also using €20 on electricity if that is the case op.

    Sorry 500 watt :o

basically were on the top up service. were you get credit. I need my computer for work but 20 euros a week seems tobe a little excesive. I use it 12 hours a day tho.

If your PSU was running at 100% load for those 12 hours then it would cost €1.20 a day to run it. Your PSU will not be running at full load for that entire time even if you were gaming for those 12 hours. For basic computer use like browsing and Microsoft office, you'll be using a fraction of that.

Im using a mix between, Photoshop Bridge and Lightroom. some times I game but not that much its genrally a work based pc.

This is the company we use http://prepaypower.ie/pricing

500W is the Max that the PSU is rated for, not an indication of use.

My electricity supplier provides a service which can supply (for example) 20,000W

That does not mean I constantly use that amount!

It is the power drain of the components that matter (plus a very very little in losses within the PSU).

20 a week is about right. Overall household use.Considering you are using 12 hours a day you are in. And using more than just this appliance.

Are you using An electric shower? If so this would account for the biggest cost. Costing more in the 10-15 min shower than the whole usage of the computer for days.

I understood the OP to mean they were told the PC only was using €20 per week? If my understanding is correct then the PC is not costing anything like that.

I agree im going to do a 9 till 01.00 hr test and check consumption for an hour / day and see what it burns.

Ah I see, just assumed this couldn't be right at all so must mean he spending 20 a week on ESB credit and the pc is to blame.

I have a power meter on my PC. Its a I7 pc with a goodish video card. At idel it use's about 200watt an hour. When working on it, it does not use much more. When playing games it use's about 360watt.

Im thinking your computer will use less then mine when idel & also when playing games. I have my computer overclocked and overvolted also.

I would bet your computer is using about 50c a day. so €3.50 a week. it could be a little more or even a little less. But not even close to €20.

No way PC can take 20eu per week. So from the comments I understand thats your rop up over all per week, which looks really normal.

Keep in mind that biggest evils on electricity bill are electric showers, heaters, microwaves.

Have any of you actually calculated it using the Electric Ireland calculator?

    Calculate:

I don't have power consumption figures for my setup (yet), but I assumed 100 idle, 350 load.
Assuming 16 hours a day, 3 of which are under full load (gaming), I get €24.89 per bill, or €12.45 a month.

PrePay Power, at least, charge the same unit rate as Electric Ireland. They do have a daily service charge, though.

So, if you guy's are both coming in at Approx €3.50 per week it makes the €20 per week way off the mark. That said, if you use that calculator based on 350W on full throttle 24\7 it paints a different picture. It comes in at €88.95 per bill & maybe that's what's confusing the person who told the OP it was costing €20 per week to run one PC?

Formatting is f'cked but here's mine:
    Device	Off	Standby	On	Peak Off /Hour	Off / Day	Off / Week	Standby/Hr	Standby/DayStandby/Wk On/Hr On/Day	On/Wk Peak/Hr Peak/Day Peak/Week
    MyMainPC 27.8	0 190	418	€ 0.01	€ 0.12	€ 0.86	€ 0.00	€ 0.00	€ 0.00 € 0.04 € 0.84	€ 5.90 € 0.08 € 1.85 € 12.98

    Q6600 with 50% overclock
    7870 King Ed
    5770
    2TB HDD
    250GB SSD
    Chunk of fans + Controller

On its 190W, PEAK is 418, thats CPU and GPUs fully loaded. Gaming its more like 330-350.

So average use 24/7 for a week is €6. Its only on ~10hrs a day max.

20€ a week you'd want to be playing BF4 every waking hour.
