If you use an SPF with your moisturiser and an eye cream do you need to or should you have an SPF in the eye cream aswell or can the SPF cream alone be enough for face and eyes?

Yes use normal SPF but don't put the cream too close to the eyes as it will sting like hell if you sweat and it gets in there. Also most sunglasses have uv protection in them and polarised ones are even better again blocks all rays.

Polarised lenses are anti glare, not extra UVA or UVB protection. But UVA (remember a for ageing) and UVB (b for burning!) lenses will protect your eye area, assuming there is a good fit, like tight to the face wrap arounds.

Can I use this thread to ask an SPF question?

Say my moisturiser has an SPF of 50 and I then put on a foundation which an SPF of 15, what SPF do I have on?

    Thanks

Yep, SPF isn't cumulative so your protection is that of the highest factor you've put on, not the two added together.

That's great - I've been googling trying to find an answer on this to no avail.:)

If you're only using a moisturiser/foundation with SPF you're getting nowhere near the SPF protection stated on the label. In order to get the full amount you need a 1/4 tsp for your face and neck alone (more than it sounds). If your concerns are about aging skin then you need to be using a separate sunscreen under your makeup.

What's more, the SPF relates to the UVB protection - i.e. protection from the sun's rays that burn. It's high UVA protection you want if it's premature aging you're looking to prevent. UVA rays penetrate through clouds and windows so unless you're living in a cave you're going to be exposed to them!

Boots have a fairly decent UVA rating system (out of 5), but I find the consistency of their sunscreens to be far too thick, often leave a white cast and never fully absorb :(

The La Roche Posay Anthelios line all have high UVA protection. Personally, I like to use Japanese sunscreens, such as Shiseido Hada Senka UV Mineral Gel, or Shiseido Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen (orderd from ebay) as the texture is just so so different to European ones, i.e it rubs in easily, I can apply 1/4 tsp without leaving a white cast, and it dries to a matte finish.

EDIT: it won't let me post links as I'm a new user, but if you do a Google search for "Skinacea suncreen recommendations" there's a fairly decent list of sunscreens with high UVA and UVB protection.
