Controllers

While the consolers make do with one controller for a vast range of games us PC users have a wealth of controllers to choose from.

The trusty and superior keyboard mouse and the xbox controller seem to be in most PC gamers toolkit but what other weird and wonderful controllers have people got?

Outside of the mouse&xbox controller I have a fanatec wheel set. The forza csr wheel, csr elite pedals and the csr shifter set (which should hopefully be replaced soon).

Have any of your controller options forced you into making mounts or clearing spaces for them? I'm in the process of building a sim rig to hold it all, I just have to figure out where to put it, I think the kitchen table will have to go.

That's part of what I love about PCs, you can try something out of boredom one day and a few months later you've converted your sitting room into the bridge of a spaceship. PCs are just great at turning a passing interest into an obsession.

Well, K+M is still a king, but I do use my 360 controller now and then for platformers. I used to use it for racing games, but I got g27 now. So happy days.

I am bolting on/off it in a minute or two. I leave it on other table in room when not used. I got a whole room dedicated for my "toys", so I dont need to hide G27 or find a proper spot for it! :P

It's just my Mouse & Keyboard and an Argos XBox controller for me.

My mouse and keyboard are worth €70 and €90 respectively though to be fair as they're my most important tools. They come in and out of work with me too (the wireless dongle on the mouse is very handy, it just plugs in and recharges every night at home then). Logitech G700 Mouse (now updated to a 700s) and a CM Storm Quickfire TK keyboard with Brown switches.

The controller was this one (with green lights :p). It's just as good as my XBox ones, I was looking for something quick and wasn't arsed paying €40 and waiting for for a wireless receiver to use the ones I have with the PC (after buying a dud one from eBay).

    [edit]
Shadowhearth my friend, all that bling and then an appalling stock Dell POS keyboard? Forshame sir! :D

I really need to try out PS4 controller for PC as it should be really good. I love PS4 controller and it is a worthy replacement for 360 pad. Specially when D-pad on 360 is ass and I use controller only for platformers now.

    Logitech MX 518 mouse
    Cyborg V7 keyboard
    Logitech G25 wheel/pedals
    xbox 360 for PC gamepad
    Logitech extreme 3D pro Joystick

Basically im sorted for any game of any genre on the best gaming platform :)

My current keyboard is a Z-Board Merc, which is about as unusual as my peripherals get. An MX518 and XBox controller make up the rest of my gear.

However, if Star Citizen really takes off (ho ho, see what I did there), I may invest in a proper HOTAS set-up.

If I had that sort of sweet setup I'd need a jizz rag closeby too :p

I'm currently in the market for a Saitek X-55, but they're a bit of a bugger to get a hold of at the moment. So until I sort that out, I'm generally using K+M for most games, with an Xbox 360 controller for the rest. I've a small enough desk in a small enough room, that houses a Mac for film editing and my PC, and there's bugger all room for anything. I keep promising myself I'll do something about the space and maybe wall mount the monitor, but I'm a lazy, lazy man, and there's too many games to get through.

That's probably a good thing, because if I had my way I'd probably end up with one of these:

Finally converting over from consoles last year, i'm still fairly new to the whole PC gaming experience. I'm unfortunate in so far as i'm so used to controllers i'm finding it extremely hard to change over to KBM, but after Googling the KB mentioned by Dair. above, i may just invest in a ZBoard Fang. Looks like it will make it a lot easier for me, considering my PC is hooked up to the TV in the sitting room and i do everything from the recliner couch. Makes it that much harder to use a KBM (the first Witcher game is sitting in my list for over 6 months and i can't get use to using the KBM after having played the second one on XBox).

I do have the 360 Controller for PC, but not all games support it, and i'm trying my best to not use it as i've joined a clan in BF4 and need to get used to KBM.

A question for ye, should i always go wired for twitch gaming? At the moment i'm using a cheap MS Wireless Keyboard 800 & Wireless Mouse 1000, so i am looking to change.

I'm not a fan of multi-monitor (reminds me of work :) ) but I guess if I played racing or flight sims then it would be something that I would consider. I might buy a joystick for Elite: Dangerous though. Not because the keyboard mouse doesnt do the job but mainly because I should have an Oculus Rift DK2 in July and the keyboard + mouse will be awkward when you can't see the keys. I'll try my xbox 360 controller first though because I don't play flight sims so an expensive joystick could be a big waste of money.

I expect many more people will be buying joysticks with VR headsets and also games like Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous coming out.
