Balbriggan Cycling and Angling store is offering me Spyder road bikes.

They said the can offer me an ALU/Carbon fork bike with full 105 for 999, and that I can spec the colour if I'm prepared to wait.

Is there anything I need to watch out for? Might go and see them tonight or tomorrow.

I'm worried that wheels might be cheap, or that the frames not as good.
I'd be looking to spend 1000-1100 and am prepared to wait for a custom build.

A friend of mine just bought one. The crankset that was fitted was a 175cm on a extra small size frame. Not a great choice for a small rider.

Why not look at a Giant defy or similar?

Thanks. I do have a Defy on my list, and it is reduced so is pretty much the price I've been quote for the same spec new Spyder so I'm started to go off the idea. I will probably still pop down this evening to have a look at them though.

OK so I went to view the Spyders this evening.

    I was impressed.

    They have the bling look.
For the road bikes there are 3 ALU frames... oval tube, tapered (very angular), and then a kind of mix, exactly the same as was on the Defy 1 I liked.

Once you pick your frame style, you can then pick your colours (up to 4).
Then you can pick you decal style.
    Then you pick your components.

If you do this you obviously have to wait 3-5 weeks for it to be built.

You can also have your name/flag decaled onto it.

I could see nothing wrong with the frames/carbon fork (they also have full carbon frames). Smooth welds and nice styling.

All top quality components, to your price point. One I looked at had Ritchie finishing, Sella Italia saddle, and Shimano gears etc and wheels.

So here are the two deals I am considering:

GIANT Defy 2 (2013). EUR1050 sticker reduced price from 1240.
1000 is from the work scheme voucher. He said the remaining 50 might be closer to 100 because of some way discounts work via the scheme.... so EUR1100

    Spyder Customer Build 2014 EUR995

    Defy / Spyder Comparison
    ALU/Carbon 9kg / ALU7005 Double Butted/Carbon 8.5-9kg
    Rear der: 105 / 105
    Front der: 105 / 105
    Shifters: 105 / 105
    Brakes: Tektro / 105
    Levers: 105 / 105
    Cassette: Tiagra / 105
    Crankset: Shimano FC-R565 / 105
    Chain: KMC / Shimano
    Hubs: GIANT / Shimano WH-R501
    Rims: GIANT / Shimano WH-R501

So for 100 less, I am getting better components, and a bling look.

Their brochure says the frames are ALU 7005 double butted.

995 euro for that spec seems great value, tempted myself but weeks to wait puts me off
