    Hi,

Would anyone have a rough idea of costs for root canal and crown treatment? Am happy enough that this is the best treatment option, but cost is high!!
    Thanks...

Are you going to a specialist for the root canal?

Mine was about a grand for a pre-molar tooth, got root canal and crown. My own dentist, not a specialist.

Yep, been referred by my own dentist (need sedation as I'm a nervous nellie in the chair!)

been quoted £900 (I'm in Belfast) seems a bit higher than the average, but probably not too unreasonable.

Apparently there is a risk that the root canal treatment won't be wholly effective if all the nerve ends can't be taken out...would have thought for that money I could expect close to 100% effectiveness?

Check out this place in Harolds Cross No names allowed

I was meant to get a crown done there but didnt follow through with it. I'm sure i'll have to give some serious time to it over the next few weeks or so

I would imagine the sedation is adding to the cost.
my last RC was €950 by specialist in South Dublin, you will also need a crown or you're at risk of the tooth fracturing down the line .

With any treatment there is a risk of it not working but that is reduced i would imagine is a endo is doing the work

Seeing an endodontist will minimise the risk of treatment failure, not practically eliminate it. Even God himself doesn't have a 100% success rate with the human body! ;)

The cost has likely been increased by the need for sedation (?IV), and or if the tooth has a complex anatomy requiring more time/visits.

Should've said that cost doesn't include for IV sedation..that's another £100 on top!

    thanks for all the responses..
think i'm content that cost isn't massively above the average, considering specialist treatment..

If you spend money on root canal make sure you spend money on a crown or else you'll loose the tooth in 10 yrs time anyways or sooner!! You don't need to spend a fortune getting the best crown there is when its a back tooth so quote around for a cheaper price for that but always spend money on specialist for rct because if it goes wrong, you still pay and have no tooth!

Actually the quality of the seal (the precision of the fit) of the crown is as if not more important than the quality of the root canal.

Wow I thought they were pricey in Cork.. Got a quote there to go to a specialist and tis €650 that's not inc the crown I don't think anywho..
Still cant get my head around getting fully knocked out for them, got two now and they are actually grand nothing to worry about. I am not the best with the dentist I live in fear but found a lovely lady who suggested taking Taizapan is it sorry I cant spell, and they completely relax you..Without them I would have myself backed into the chair, crying out.. Just been told she has got gas and air there too it is suppose to be great looking forward to trying it

best of luck with it anywho hope it goes well
