Paypal and Sterling to Euro Conversion?

I have noticed that if I pay for an item from the UK in Pounds Sterling that Paypal will always do the conversion for me at a worse rate than my bank. I wonder is there a way for to pay in sterling directly through Paypal rather than Paypal charging me excessively by doing the conversion into Euro and charging me in Euro.

E.g. I'd much prefer for to be charged £9.99 direct and let my bank do the exchange rate than Paypals far worse Euro exchange rate.

Last week I purchased some items on both Amazon.co.uk and eBay.co.uk on the same day and all these were delivered from the UK. The Paypal exchange rate was 0.786515 wheras the Amazon payment went through as Pound Sterling and I can see that the Amazon Pound Sterling rate was 0.815965 which was quite a better rate than Paypal almost 3p better. And even with the cross border handling fee from my bank there would have been a saving of several Euro had Paypal just billed me in Sterling rather than giving me their worse exchange rate.

On small items it can be small but if you are spending a few hundred pounds it can add up.
