It's great that there's so much being organised but it really really needs better promotion. I only know about it because of this forum. There needs to be some sort of publicity/promotion department or some such to let people know these events are taking place.

Then a new one is needed.

New one went out to tender in February, but, given our ability to make a cat's backside out of everything we put our hand to, we probably won't have anything in place before the end of year.

It's such a shame because people seem to have really positive experiences of the festivals, hopefully there'll be a team in place with the energy, enthusisasm and experience to promote it in the way in needs.

    Thomas Street & Catherine Street
Calling all curious minds! The TomCat Street Festival aims to have a broad and inclusive range of events within Thomas Street and Catherine Street including vibrant representation of performance, music, dance, DJs, installation artwork, photography, craftwork and workshops, film fiestas and conceptual works. The streets form the background and inspiration for a festival that will echo the diverse nature of the existing business on the streets.

    Line Up:
Friday 30th May5.30pm: Opening of festival - Join us for a wine and cheese reception in the beautiful Anne Street garden to officially open the festivies with a range of delicious finger foods from the local cafes and restaurants.
7pm: Walkabout history tour - Hosted by Sharon Slater discussing the unique and slightly dark history of our little neighbourhood. Sharon has indept knowledge of the area and this promises to be a curiosity raising time.
8pm: Sign workshop - Tom Collins will invite the public into his workshop to view traditional signage techniques. You will also be able to see the ever changing face of the Tomcat area with Tom’s local knowledge at your disposal.

Saturday 31st MayThere are so many small events planned we aim to create a busy feel to the area, a real festival atmosphere. To aid us in this we have a wide range of street d.cor hired from Bui Bolg such as oversized benches and deck chairs, giant flowers and many other items to give a real impact on the street. This will provide a fantastic backdrop for the events we have running throughout the day.
    • A grand piano donated by Kleisers to be placed in the foyer of Brown Thomas
    • The Roller Derby Girls will be skating around adding to the carnival atmosphere and directing people to differnet happenings.
    • Still life art classes, lectures on curiosities, garden parties and much much more.
    • The choral festival is also taking place this weekend and we hope to have a number of the choirs perform on the street.
    • Mad Hatters Tea Party: Hosted on the corner of Thomas Street and Foxes Bow this vintage tea party brings life and colour to the area. Our stilt walking Mad Hatter together with the Queen of Hearts and her card soldiers will walk a procession from the Milk Market to the Tomcat area.
    • Busking: To add to the carnival atmosphere we have a troupe of dedicated and vetted buskers spread throughout the area and three pianists playing all afternoon.
    • Focal point: On lower Thomas Street we intend to drop a very large wooden crate early in the morning. This abnormal structure will add to people’s curiosity as to why it’s there and what’s inside. At 2 pm we will inflate the contents of the crate to reveal 6 m high tentacles towering above the street. With the natural gradient on Thomas Street this spectacle cannot be missed. A mass of people will gather together to view a small troupe of ballet dancers perform in costume.
    • Flash mob: To take full advantage of the mass gathering of people (approx. 2000) we have a flash mob curated by Ras Mikey, who choreographed the recent Shannon Airport flash mob, that will involve close to 60 people.
    • Throughout the day we will also have local jugglers, fire breather’s, clowns and actors engaging with people on the street to encourage them to get into the festival humour.
    • We also have the limerick printmakers hand screen printing t-shirts which will be for sale outside Paddy Frawleys on Thomas Street
    • There will also be an acrobat preforming within a large inflatable brown bottle and a host of quirky events.
    • Theatre: From 3pm to 6 pm we will use the new garden on the corner of Anne Street and Thomas Street to perform a series of short plays. With the help of local groups the wild flower garden with seating made from the trees that fell in People’s Park during the winter storms will provide a perfect location for an engaging space
    • To end the days activities each of the pubs in the Tomcat area have organised top-line entertainment across a broad variety of styles to cover every kind of taste.

Sunday 1st JuneOn Sunday we will have a small series of events that include two performances from Drum Circle Ireland, open air tango and a small food expo on the street.
