Cattle on grass

    Hi All,

Laid new grass last year. First cut last week and then up to 40 cattle ran through it on Sunday. Not happy!

Couple of landscapers have looked at it and both want to burn off the damaged grass and re-lay.

That's no grass until next year for the majority of the area.

Is there any alternative? Bear in mind we spent money getting it done day one are we better off doing what they say?

Love to have it looking as it was this summer but maybe that's no an option!!

    Living in the Cork area.

    Thanks

Any chance of a photo? A description of the damage? What size is the garden?

I have had this happen a few times and it grew back fine...helped along with a bit of grass seed. Never had 40 cows, usually around 10 and in fairness the damage wasnt too bad.

    Is it that bad?

Should the farmer in question not be looking after the cost of this ?

Have to agree its normally the farmer who covers the cost. They're responsible for keeping their cattle in their land

Same happened in my dads place years ago. The farmer took responsibility for the repairs which he sorted out promptly.

Don't have a picture handy but about a third of an acre is affected. Had two landscapers in and both suggested burning and re sowing. Some deep craters in one section due to wet weather at the time. Could sand and seed but concerned it'll look bad long term and we paid to have it done day 1. Farmer will pay but not in favour of using his insurance if can avoid. Doesn't look to bad from surface but upstairs view isn't pretty. Cost quoted from 1500 to 6k!!! Latter seens excess

Could you roll it? Those prices are crazy imo.

Just an update on the above.

We've going to get top soil and mix with sand. Then once it gets a bit wetter out there. Been awhile! We'll roll it. As I mulch the grass reckon no seed. Think we'll just have clumps if I do that.
