Hi guys i have had my macbook pro for 3 years in september and its bringing to slow down a lot over the last few months.

Its a i7 Duel core with 4GB of ram and its a 13 inch one.

I manly use it for college work what includes Maya, Adobe CSS must of the suite, Video editing next year, Project work EG MS word, Programming and Football Manager.

Maya Completely slows down the mac and can take ages to do stuff on it. With Adobe it can take quite a while to open files and can freeze for a few secs while i work on them. With Football manger is sounds like a jet engine.

I was thinking of putting a SSD drive and running the OS off that and upgrading the ram but that is coming close to about 200 euros for the upgrade with VAT back. Would there be much of a improvement ?.

I have been pricing the refurb 15 inch macs with 16GB of ram as i think in the long run i might need it with the amount of work on i will being on it and the extra 2 inches screen means a lot.

Would my macbook be worth much to sell on i was thinking about 650 or so ? and just upgrade outright to a 15 inch ?.

Also does anyone know how VAT works with Apple ?. As i have a Vat number.

I say max out the RAM and put in an SSD. 4GB isn’t enough for what you’re using it for, especially if you are running 10.9 and the latest versions of said apps. An SSD will make a huge difference to everyday tasks like opening files and apps. Maybe do a clean install as well, or at least rule out rogue background processes eating up system resources.

SSD and max the ram, fresh install, will make a huge difference.
    However
Using Maya and the Adobe Suite could really benefit from a larger screen, from a usability point of view. Retina screen is impressive but not essential for what you need it to do

Whats the ram i can put in 16GB ?. Wheres the cheapest where i can pick that up at the moment ?.

SSD are cheap at the moment so its grand to pick up a 240GB for less then 100 euros.

Yes i am 10.9.2 at the moment.

Thats the thing i know how to do a fresh installs on a windows PC. How do you do one on a mac ?.

Like with kind of rogue programs could be running on the mac ? and is it posable to do a scan on it like i windows PC ?

Thats what i am thinking as i also have a high spec Gaming Pc with a 27 inch Full HD display and working on that is something else as everything is so big and the PC is so fast on like the mac. But i need the portability as use my Mac for all my labs in college.

Crucial is the place to go, OP. You can put your MacBook Pro model details into the relevant fields and it'll tell you what components are compatible with that particular model. It will also tell you the maximum amount of RAM and the appropriate SSD compatible with that particular MacBook Pro.

Works out €154 euros with Express shipping for 12GB of ram and a 128GB SSD drive. I just need to get a SSD macbook kit and i will think i will just upgrade and get another 2 years out of the laptop
