Hi, I was asked to research this and from what I read of a few Irish websites - I can't get a clear understanding of this....

My pal has just got his confirmation letters/papers about him getting onto the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance scheme...

Now - he sure does not intend to reach or exceed even a €30,000 annual turnover mark which should from my understanding protect his business from the VAT...

The problem is that when he was getting his quota with all the things listed he required for his start-up, he could not get the shop's thick salesperson to print out his quota docket WITHOUT THE MENTION OF THE VAT.

The..buddy of mine is now..somewhat paranoid because "the VAT that's mentioned on the docket increases all the items' prices up..which results in the Total: amount to appear to be exceeding the allowed €2,000 start-up grant"...

Should he be worried that the person who's gonna review his Start-Up costs quota for his grant take the mentioned VAT into account (well..because it's there) and mess up his grant receivage?)))

Or should he chill and stop worrying coz in his case the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance scheme sugar-coats his business VAT-free undeniably, always, undoubtedly ..?

It seems simple but I've probably searched each official Irish info pages like welfare.ie, the citizen information website etc, singularly in its entirety (I'm going mad, haa)) and just......couldn't find a straight-forward answer to this dilemma.

If anybody can drop their thoughts on this, suggestions or bits of actual info - that would be energisingly-stratospherically over-thanked for, appreciated and so on))))))))))
    Thanks!

If you buy anything from a business who is vat registered the cost of the goods must include the vat charged. (This is generally true, I'm not getting into exemptions or reverse charging etc)

This is true for individuals buying from vat registered businesses and businesses buying from vat registered businesses. There are rules vat registered businesses must abide by, one of which is to show vat on their invoices.

Your friend has been issued with a receipt or invoice which states a nett amount and a vat amount which add up to the gross amount he was charged. Even if the company reissued an invoice showing just the Gross amount, he still would have been charged the same amount.

At the end of the day, regarding his grant, I don't see how it's a problem. He spent what spent and has the invoice to prove it.
