Hi All I'm looking to buy a lathe for turning replacement parts for machinery and making up odds and ends I used one when I was in secondary school. I'm looking for advice and pictures on the most suitable machine please, I'm looking to spend small money on this at the moment and maybe in a year or two upgrade.

I look forward to hearing from everyone on this. :-D

There was a guy on here before who had a thread on getting a lathe.

If you do a search you should be able to find it.

There is a good UK magazine called Model Engineers Workshop which will have ads showing what is available, you may be able to find an electronic edition online.
Myford used to be the market leader but there are many Chinese and Japenese lathes available now .You could search theMachinery and Tools section of DoneDeal , you may be lucky and find an ex school or college machine which would be better than many of the new items on the market .Companies such as Chronos and RDG have online shops for affordable tooling when you get to that stage .
Depending on size some of the machines will be 3 phase but converters are readily available or just change out the motor and control circuit.
    Good luck.
