The politicians have been plaguing us for weeks looking for votes in this Friday's local elections. Busy, busy people they must be.

Too busy to find a parking spot more than three steps from the door.

If Linus English or Lorraine Higgins think this carry on is acceptable is it any wonder lazy feckers all over the country follow their lead?

Would it be possible to have a thread where we can post photos of vehicles illegally parked (ie without badges) in disabled spots?

In the interests of fairness we don't really know who was driving these vans at the time,it's unlikely to be the candidates themselves. It is possible that whoever was driving or their passenger may have a card and legitimate reason to use a disabled bay.

Also even if the person doesn't have a card, which is a gross abuse in my opinion, if it isn't the candidate driving they shouldn't have their chances ruined over someone elses idiocy and lack of decency.

Its a far bigger issue in this country with the avg joe parking in disabled spots up and down this country, I see it every day!

Don't see people too outraged about that,

How is watching a load of old Baywatch episodes going to help?

Maybe the drivers of those vehicles have legitimate Disabled Driver badges.

I must say I rarely see disabled parking spaces abused around here and I do pay attention to this - being a senior myself.

Different type of Baywatch ENTIRELY ;-)

It's not just an Irish problem but we seem to shrug our shoulders instead of taking action.

I think people running for public office should be called to set an example all the same. I'd have even more trouble with someone like that flouting the law.
However in these cases it could be anyone working on the campaign who is parking here, most likely without the express consent of the candidates in question.

I have a picture somewhere on one of my drives of a guy in a pickup truck that diagonally parked over 2 disabled parking spots while he went into SuperValu, will have to dig it out when I get home.

No, they don't. Lorraine Higgins says
    a) it wasn't her but a member of her staff
    b) it was before 8am
    c) it wasn't for long
    d) it won't happen again
    b,c,d are all typical responses.

I haven't seen a response from Linus Higgins himself but the driver of the vehicle in question is his son, Garth. See the comments section on this article.

Only option D is an acceptable response.

Option d is a soft answer to make you go away and stop bothering them. It's about as genuine as a politician's promise.

In fairness both vans are impeccably parked.

Maybe, but it's the best answer you'll get, sadly.

I've had to abandon days out with a very disabled relative, days that take so much forward planning it makes a military invasion look like an unexpected primary school playtime, because some joker thinks...

    a)Sure, they're usually all empty
    b)I'll only be a minute
    c)It's raining

...are viable reasons for my relative to miss what might be her only day out in months, her only opportunity to relate to the outside world. Another disabled relative died, not having been out for months because of the logistics involved.

I despise those lazy, stupid excuses and the people who make them with a vengeance, because they are too thick to even consider the consequences. Or maybe they just don't even care.

It's currently the best we get because it's become the status quo. A Baywatch photo and shame campaign might make people think twice.

I have a parking permit and had to give up and go home sometimes when there are no accessible spaces. It's infuriating. When a judge is prepared to give a six-month ban perhaps it's time to carpe diem!

And to think, I was going to vote for her!!

I have no idea who to vote for at all, if they're not junk littering my hallway while I'm at work they're pulling these stunts!!

Lorraine Higgins' response. "Thanks for bringing this to my attention. A driver putting up posters this morning before 8am made an honest mistake outside a shop. I've spoken to him and it won't happen again."

This is getting as much repulsion on her Facebook page as the parking mideameanour did.

I doubt it very much they have badges, and in my area, I see it way, way too much.

WTF is that supposed to mean? Are people with disabled parking permits not allowed out before 8 a.m?

Maybe the shop doesn't open until 08:00.

People should *definitely* blame Lorraine Higgins for what the driver, who is a different person to her, did.

    Tards.

I see has-been singer Frances Black has it on her Facebook page: "Would ya look at this.. Government not only take medical cards off the disabled but take their parking spaces as well..where would ya get it?"
Yes, "Government" take their parking spaces.

Good tactic though Frances to sell the auld musical recordings - get "down with the people".

Just finished the whole lot, and there was nothing about disabled parking whatsoever.

Is there anything to be said for another mass?

Linus English's 19yr old son driving the van.........mmm wonder if the van is registered as a Van or Private car, the wheels/tyres certainly won't pass a DOE/Van test.

Some choice language used on his replies on talkofthetown.ie Way to go for getting votes for your dad...not

Search for Linus English disabled on google.

    Cheers
    Mick

Really? Is that the extent of your vocabulary? Did you leave school at twelve?

Frances Black was using her fanbase to publicise the genuine issue that affects thousands of people in Ireland.

No. Strange thing to say on the basis of one word.

Was she? Colour me cynical (which I'm normally not) but I'd suspect her of trying to win more fans - statuses of that nature being the kind that will go viral.
The driver certainly should not have parked there, but he is an individual - not "the government". Not even a candidate.
