Expedition Africa 2014

    Team Beast of Ballyhoura / V Graph fly out this morning to participate in the 2014 Kinetic Gear Expedition Africa adventure race.

    Distances for Expedition Africa 2014: Cycling 350 km - 50 %, kayaking 83 km - 15 %, trekking 137 km - 24 %. 2013 route flyover here.

    The action kicks off at 7am on Sunday, with full live tracking available here.

    Messages will be relayed to the team at various points throughout, so send them some motivation, abuse, etc.!

    for things like the abseiling, would the gear(ropes) be in place when you get there, or is it rig your own lines? probably okay this early in the race to rig your own, but as fatigue sets in would you trust yourself?

    Ropes would be pre-rigged. I've never heard of any race where racers would be expected to set up their own absiel ropes. 90% of the time there'll be someone maning the ropes, and they will do a safety check on each racer's set-up before letting them progress. Usually there'll be mandatory prusics (or some other braking set-up), or a saftey rope, or a combination, to add even more safety.
