So with the amount of Messenger Apps around what ones do you use. It is getting a bit ridiculous as none of them are completely the same but all very very similar?

I have installed on my Phone Whatsapp, Viber(which I use most), WeChat(Which I use most in China), Messenger(cos I am on facebook) and Telegram(to talk to Russian friends). But it's all a bit much. Can we just have one size fits all plskthx.

*Tried To add a Poll* but failed. Here are the options:

    WhatsApp
    Viber
    WeChat
    Snapchat
    Messenger
    Telegram
    Hangouts
    Kik
    ChatON
    Kakao Talk
    Line

Whatsapp is the only usable one. But I hate the way you cant transfer over old chats to a new phone. Viber is **** because you cant download the pic someone sent you.

Allegedly messenger is getting the chop because Whatsapp has been brought by facebook

    None.

3000 free text messages a month, only use about 200

    I just use ArseChat.

No matter who sends you a text message, you phone automatically replies to them with an: 'Ask me arse' text.

Ditto. I can't see the point unless I plan on keeping tabs of what app everyone I know uses. Texts always work.

you have to think of them though replying, or at least thats what i do. Once you get used to it its grand, i have mates that prefer viber and ones that prefer whatsapp and both allow the delivery reports so if its urgent and they don't get it i shoot off an sms too

Data is usually cheaper than texts these days especially with the wifi everywhere.

I have snapchat, hangouts, bbm, whatsapp, viber, stock sms, chat on and no doubt a few more.

I have unlimited data and pretty much unlimted texts but i'll usually use the data option. Easier to send stuff like pictures/sounds/videos too

Viber and Whats App, I only use them when in a Wifi area as I'm too cheap to use my credit. :D

In China I tell the lovely ladies how lovely they are. On WeChat you also have this shake feature which when you shake the phone matches you with other (ideally girls who are shaking their phone) users. I just happen to have loads of Russian friends. I tell them that I think Putin is a **** etc etc.

Ugh Google Hangouts proof that Googles 'Don't be Evil' isn't the same as 'Don't be a Dick', it automatically updated the not fancy but workable Google Chat app I was using with something that is inferior in every way

I refuse to use messenger because it causes my phone to go crazy with alerts but when I logged onto facebook using my phone yesterday I got a message that said that they were removing the chat/message feature from the facebook app soon and keeping it exclusively for messenger.

I'm uncomfortable with how much information Facebook tries to wheedle out of people. They seem desperate for my phone number. I'm also done with giving apps permissions because they're extracting the urine. I tried Tango recently to chat to my cousin and without warning it texted all of my contacts to invite them to use Tango, as well as put a floating alert on my screen that I couldn't figure out how to get rid of as swiping it only moved it to another part of the screen. That POS was deleted sharply.

Edit: is the Facebook/Whatsapp merger confirmed, then? Last I heard it was being challenged in the US courts.

You'd usually use this thing called a memory card, though, I suppose most iPhone users wouldn't know what that is. I have Viber, Snapchat and Facebook. I only have Viber to text my best friend, as he has crappy signal in his house, making regular texting difficult when he's at home. I downloaded Snapchat because some friends told me it was good, I don't use it anymore, I'll probably delete it if the time comes that I need more space. And Facebook is what I'd use to talk to most people.

I used kik for a little while, till I realised it was the abode of teenagers and silly people. Now just whatsapp.

yeah i don't know how i can survive on 16gb internal with expansion and appsd where i can support another 128gb.

unless you go back 4 or 5 years and get the Europa with its massive 500mb or you get the S3 and fill it with apps you'll never use (app2sd was not supported on the s3) you won't have an issue anymore

I use Whatsapp mainly, and Viber for those not on Whatsapp.

You can stick a micro sd card into a samsung to give it a bigger memory than any iphone :D

    ICQ.

I missed using ICQ so much that I managed to convince a few friends to start using it again.

Settings > Media > Save to Gallery.

Every pic I've ever been sent on Viber gets saved.

I use Watsapp because my family and one best friend uses it. I use Viber because one other best friend uses it.

Facebook apps of all kinds are an atrocious pile of ****e, so I don't use Messenger.

Between all the bloody ways I can be contacted on my phone, the odd time it makes a sound and I've no idea which app someone was trying to contact me on.

Someone shared pictures with me on an app that's comes as default on iphone so didn't really pay attention to what it was. Only figured out a few days later that I had a message. It is starting to get a little silly now.

You just need to copy them across. Whatsapp only holds messages on their servers that haven't been received.

No option for Skype, iMessage, Facetime or Tango there OP?

    Tsk! :p

Apart from phone calls being the most obvious one, I'd use in descending order -

    Text message
    Email
    Skype
    Viber
    WhatsApp
    6Snap (Windows Phone Snapchat client)
    Kik
    Vine

I'm not on Facebook so I don't need messenger, and Skype took over from Windows Live Messenger. There's no Tango client available for Windows Phone 8, and it doesn't look likely there will be one available any time soon.

    Whatsapp
    Viber
    Messenger
    Snapchat
    Skype

Hate using Viber because it's so slow, regret having snapchat available when I'm drunk.

WhatsApp is the most frequently used, followed closely my Facebook messenger. Also have Viber, Skype and Snapchat but they're all rarely used. Snapchat is the biggest pain in the hoop, I only keep it installed because I have ONE friend who is genuinely hilarious on it.

    Whatsapp
    Viber
    Snapchat
    Facebook messenger

That's it really! Hate viber also, pain in me face with it.

I've never used Snapchat but I genuinely don't get the point of it in terms of if your sending something you don't want people to keep, like its about 2 button presses to take a screen shot on my phone and thats without anything installed.
Or is it actually pretty decent as a standalone messenger?

    Whatsapp and Viber.

Don't like Viber but just keep it as a few people I know insist on using it.

    Whatsapp.
Only occasionally use fb messenger and good ol' SMS.

I think the whole point of snapchat is you don't have to think about what you write or take a photo of. Its the equivilant of a drunken chat with mates. especially when you have been drinking!

Yes you can take a screenshot but the person is also notified unless they have an app on their that bypasses it. If a mate has that function and uses it though can you really call them a mate?

Ehhh yea about the memory card thing you cant transfer apps onto it so you're sarcastic comment kinda falls flat on it face :) so like i said the Samsung s4 only has 9gb of internal space for apps making it useless really considering apps are getting much bigger in size now . iPhone 5s 64b enough said .

PS s5 8.5 gb of internal space enough said.

No, it's fairly annoying. But it does let the user know if you screen shot their picture. There's nothing they can do about it.... but they'll know.
