Trying to verify if this car has factory Bluetooth and cruise control. Garage assured me it does but is there a way I can independently verify before I put down my deposit?

Carsireland.ie used to have a feature where if you put the reg of the car in it'd give you the spec it came with and whether or not it currently has tax or nct. Not sure if they still have but worth a shot

If you are going to view it anyway surely using them is the quickest way to verify it?

Car is in England. Don't want to pay deposit and book flights until I'm sure of the spec.

If that spec A5 doesn't have cruise control or Bluetooth, I will eat my hat!

Hope your right Paddy, strange though that the description includes items such as '12V Power Point' but omits cruise control!

There's a free BMW vin decoder online, maybe there's an Audi version somewhere?

Or else you could ask the dealer to email the vin and try get a friendly local Audi staff member to check it on the system.

Nice motor. Seems very high spec, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't factory fitted. I didn't see any parrot system either, and there is an "answer" button on steering wheel. I'd say it's factory fitted.

What's that awful looking screen tacked on to the dash about?

Garage said it has factory Bluetooth plus another Bluetooth and music streaming device fitted.

so the easiest way to see is to get them to take a photo of the sticker in the rear wheel well or inside the cover of the owners manual.

should look like this - http://www.paintcode.co.uk/images/vwpaintcodes.jpg

once you have that, go here http://igorweb.org/equidec/ and plug in the data from the block of codes under the paint code highlighted in that image and it will say something like telephone preparation as an option if it was factory fitted.

fwiw it doesnt look factory to me - any of the audis I've had have everything displayed via the MMI and dont use an external screen. that said, a friend has VW from the UK which has a very similar screen on it which is factory but it has an RNS based system

Bluetooth isn't a deal breaker but cruise control is. Damn picture hides the area where the cruise stalk would be.

you should also be able to see from the option codes if it has cruise

CC stalk should be on the left had side of the steering wheel below the other stalk. Also seems a bit odd to fit an aftermarket Bluetooth kit if it is fitted already from the factory. UK spec A5s are a bit odd and I would not take it for granted that it has either as standard. Ask the dealer to email you photos of the factory Bluetooth option on the menu interface and also the cc stalk.

so it should look like this - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attachments/test-drives-initial-ownership-reports/907733d1332827993-skoda-superb-tryst-destiny-39-superb-stalk-indicator.jpg and from the pictures, there is no switch on the stalk.

some audis have a separate stalk at 8 o'clock for cruise but i dont see that either

Hoping it's got the lower stalk and it's not visible behind the wheel on that picture.

That's a Bury bluetooth kit, usually VAG aftermarket bluetooth. The cruise can be retrofitted quiet easily and cheaply.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,244 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

That's a Bury Bluetooth kit is it not?

Why would someone install a Bluetooth kit in a car that has Bluetooth?

As above. Vag did them themselves (Bury kit with branding removed and a VW startup screen in the transporter). I'd expect better in an A5 mind.

Cruise control can be added easily enough cant it?

http://hazzydayz.com/audi-a5-cruise-control-2007---2013-1709-p.asp for the cruise retrofit. looks like it might even be the 8 o'clock one

they will travel to do work and are very highly regarded on the UK based audi forums if thats any help

Cruise retrofit is a diy with vagcom.
Fiscon bluetooth can be retrofitted also for a full factory appearance bluetooth utilising steering controls and in dash screen.
If I was traveling for that car, Id firstly get hazzydayz to quote for both items separately and see if a deal can be made re costs if they are not present.

Doesn't have factory Bluetooth or cruise control despite assurances from the salesman

Ask George Dalton for a price to retrofit. Hazzydays prices seem a bit nuts!

Unless I can negotiate a discount from carbase (highly unlikely I presume) I'm going to pass.

George Dalton retrofitted the OEM Bluetooth onto my A6 last year and it was very reasonable.

Factory Bluetooth is an expensive and time-consuming job though from what I've read. My car came with a Dension 500 media adapter (gives iPod/USB functionality through the MMI) which I got a BTA1500 Bluetooth add-on for, but it's not great to be honest.. sound quality isn't the best and it has a few bugs so I've been looking into a better solution on and off myself.

OP, here is one with factory cruise control and Bluetooth, though it is a year older.
