    Hi
I failed my exams for college which will now prevent me from getting into year 2,there is an option to repeat but its very expensive,I'm on btea atm,I already filled out the form stating I would be going back to yr 2 in September but that's unlikely now, also Im not sure if the the course was right for,Is it possible for me to change course and get btea again? My head is a mess because I'm worrying so much about this.

    Thanks

Speak to the Student's Union, there is a student assistance fund if you are in the absolute pits.

Speak to MABS. Exhaust all credit lines. Temporarily do not pay unsecured debt. Do anything.

Certainly, bottom of your list is not taking the exam. It is doable, it can work, you just need the discipline.

A friend of mine lived on a 2 loaves of bread, a bag of porridge and about 4 turnips to do his exam once. That had to last him 2 weeks. Total food budget €5. He now drives a 6 series BMW and doesn't eat any lesser a cut than ribeye steak.

You should definitely try and repeat the exams. Lots of people fail on the first attempt and pass the repeats. DSP may not allow you to switch course if it means you are going back to do first year again. It would be up to the deciding officer.

I cant post a link as I don't have enough posts but you can look this up on welfare.ie and query BTEA.

    1.10 Progression in education course
The approved full-time education course must lead to a higher qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications other than that already held. Existing graduates should not have an entitlement to BTEA to pursue a course at a similar qualification level as, inter alia; this can lead to displacement of persons seeking such qualifications for the first time. Reference should be made to the National Framework of Qualifications (see appendix 3) e.g. If a person holds a Fetac level 5 qualification, they must be progressing to a level 6 qualification. A person holding a level 7 degree can only apply for a level 8 add- on year (honours bachelor degree) in the same discipline and is not eligible for new level 8 degree course in a different discipline.

What if I fail the repeats? What are my options then?

How many did you fail? Can you carry over some modules into year 2?

I failed all 4 pretty badly, you can't carry them into yr 2,you have to pass yr 1 to into yr 2 :(.

Not in all Universities or Institutes you can carry 2 failed modules over and repeat them another time, but 4 means plenty of study I'm afraid. Best of lucky with them.

as far as I have read if you have to repeat an entire year you can get back to education allowance
