There seems to be a lot of anger directed at candidates and it's got me curious as to how many people are going to vote. So, will you vote or can you just not be bothered to?

Personally I can't decide whether to vote for Independent candidate I'd prefer or just not bother to vote at all.

I always vote, it is the only weapon the state allows us to use against it.

No as I do not want to vote for a republican party nor a loyalist party as i am an ulsterman

I have never been presented with a list of candidates I wanted to vote for less. Few, if any, inspire any confidence. Those that aren't aligned to parties give me the feeling that they're just looking to capitalise on the protest vote.

Still very much undecided on whom I will vote for, but I will most certainly be voting.

Remember folks, if you don't vote, don't bitch.

Pretty sure there are other parties in the north that don't represent either nationalist or unionists.

I always appreciate the opportunity to vote and will do so on Friday. I was out of the country for the Seanad referendum vote last year so I don't intend to pass up the chance to go to the polls this week.

No. Sick of all the junk mail in the letterbox every day.
All they do if waffle, and dodge the questions they've been asked.
Some of them can't even read. One lad where I am is just the town clown. Brass neck on him.

    George Carlin quote

“I don't vote. Two reasons. First of all it's meaningless; this country was bought and sold a long time ago. The **** they shovel around every 4 years. Doesn't mean a ****ing thing. Secondly, I believe if you vote, you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around – they say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain', but where's the logic in that? If you vote and you elect dishonest, incompetent people into office who screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You caused the problem; you voted them in; you have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote, who in fact did not even leave the house on election day, am in no way responsible for what these people have done and have every right to complain about the mess you created that I had nothing to do with.”

My polling card hasn't turned up yet. If it does and I have time I might vote for an indeppendent.

As long as you are registered, you don't need your polling card. Just bring along ID.

personally i think that due to the fact our nation is in economic shackles, the smiling posters and the cost of the campaigns are disgusting.
The rot in this country is so bad that it needs to be rebuilt...voting for some protest vote whose supporters can only attack others with txt speak will not work either....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,339 ✭✭✭The One Doctor

Will I vote? Hmmm. The problem is that I don't support any of the parties and know don't anything about the independents. So I'll probably give my vote to an independent who is unlikely to be elected. That way my vote isn't spoiled.

    Logic? Hah.

I think a lot of people are feeling disillusioned and won't vote.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭The Pheasant2

I will be voting - those of you who don't want to vote due to poor candidates etc. should still vote. Simply spoil your vote. A spoiled vote at least demonstrates your stance on things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,992 ✭✭✭DavyD_83

    Still not sure I'll bother;
Very little authority in the roles, meaning little or no chance any changes will be made for better or worse based on the individuals elected.

Like you, if i do vote it eill probably be for independents, as I would prefer what little authority there is, and control of any associated budgets to be in their hands.

I've never really gotten the logic that says spoiling your vote is more effective than not voting.
Same result, with added effort for the voter. Possibly shows that lack of a productive vote is not just apathy, but kind of feels like protesting an event by paying the entry fee and whinging rather than just staying away.

Is there any actual scenario wher they will turn around and say: "Oh, look slike we have a lot of people spoiling votes, we better change things?"

I think it's Australia (and maybe elsewhere) where voting is compulsory. You can spoil your ballot but you must vote.

I wish we had that system. Maybe then the poor excuses for politicians we have here would realise it's not voter apathy that is causing low turn-outs, but rather a lack of candidates who offer anything inspiring / different / intelligent to vote for.

    I'll be voting.

And I won't be spoiling it either. That's worse than not voting at all in my opinion.

Not impressed by any of the candidates, so im not sure if i will or not.

    i always vote.
no matter how crap the selection it is.

On that point - I get annoyed when people say the selection is crap, all useless etc...
    that attitude is lazy.

anybody can register to run for election - so get off your hole if your selection isn't to your liking.

Voting for the first time internationally. Kind of excited about it. Totally different system here to Ireland (and much less fair) but I complain enough about how things are here politically, so it's time to do what I can about it.

I don't see it that way. If you spoil your ballot you tell the candidates that you completely disagree with them. If you don't turn up you just tell them that you couldn't be bothered. Surely the first message is more powerful and more likely to result in change?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,686 ✭✭✭✭Zubeneschamali

    I nearly always vote.

If there are no candidates I like, I vote in reverse order, putting the very worst candidates last and working my way up to the ones i just really dislike.

disagree - a spoilt vote is still a vote cast.

at this stage I will vote for independents and i don't actually care what they stand for once they are not connected to the rotten political trough parties, that's how bad the political landscape is in this country for me

Or you could spoil your ballot and say "I'm not accepting either slap, thanks." I seem to have become an advocate for spoiling ballots... in the last few minutes. Not sure how that happened. :)

No. will not be voting as will be out of the country, working. Great that I don't have to get stressed out about whether to vote or not.

I will be voting but it's pretty hard to care as regardless of who wins they won't have any power to change anything.

Just on the bus now going through the southside and the amount of money that must have been spent on posters is outrageous. I have yet to see a lamppost without a least 2 signs

I will be voting for Fine Gael and not passing preferences to any other candidates. When you look at the mess that they inherited, they've done wonders to turn the country around.

Given how the E-voting machines turned out I can't imagine our crowd managing online voting any time soon.

Yes I will, haven't gotten a voting card as usual.

They somehow manage to send one to the OH but not me, same thing the last three elections!
