    As above really.
I am currently using a vista pc and need a newer version of ms office.
To get 2013 or 365 I need at least w7.
What do you all think, W7 or 8?
    I also have a w7 laptop.

    Thanks

Why do you need a new version of Office?

(As far as I know, Office 2010 should work with Vista, that's always an option)

Currently using 2003, and need some of the other options in newer versions.
I was thinking I could buy 2010, but its still an older version and only have it on 1 machine. If I upgraded and got 365 it would be up to date and on both machines.

I am open to advice, perhaps 365 is too expensive or w7 or 8 not as user friendly.

    Pros and cons?

Win7 is very similar to Vista, but generally quite a bit more resource-friendly. The jury's still out on Win8. I'm not using it myself, and I know a few friends who got it cheap, and have since moved back to Win7.

Thats interesting. W8 looks like it is more suited to touch screen.
    Where would you buy?

It is yeah, but only with the Metro interface. It's still pretty similar to Win7 visually underneath.

As to where to buy, from Reddit Software Swap. ;)

I was just looking at MS office there, the link brings to you a graphic image rather than an ISO.
    Am I missing something simple?

You can turn off the metro interface using 3rd party apps, it takes like a minute. Then Windows 8 looks and works almost the same as Windows 7. I wouldn't pay extra for Windows 8, but I wouldn't avoid it either. I'd get which ever is cheaper. Personally I prefer Windows 8 if the cost was the same. Unless you're running some games or something that didn't work on Windows 8. I expect that would be mainly older stuff. That said with the latest Patches Vista should work ok for you. Upgrading to W7 or 8 is a nice to have not a need to have. That said I don't like Vista and I'd pay a bit to move to 7 or 8.

The Office 2010/365 is a different question. Couldn't help you there. I only use it at work. At home any old thing will do.

I'm am using windows 8 now and would never go back to windows 7. Just buy windows 8 and use a start menu so you never have to use the tiles bit. It will look and feel like windows 7 then with all the extra benefits of windows 8 including the speed increase.

You could always consider installing Linux and running Libre Office or Open Office. That OS and office applications are free and Linux overall takes up less space and resources on your system.

Just install classicshell.net which is free and it'll sort out the start menu perfectly.
Personally, I like the aero look of 7, but 8 does have a few nice functional additions.

Win 8.1 can be changed to look almost like 7. 8 is less resource hungry and IMO has better interface / handling. Personaly I would always go for the latest as it (apart from xp) will be supported longer.

Are they 100% legit? I've seen it mentioned a few times now around here

I would seriously doubt it for those prices.

I've bought Windows keys from Reddit a few times now and all verify and validate with no problem. They are legitimate Windows keys however the selling of them as they are is a bit of a grey area.

Also just get Win8 and download Classic Shell, a free app that makes it look exactly like Win7.

Also, don't buy an 8.1 key. Buy a windows 8 key, and then upgrade to 8.1 as it's free. People sell 8.1 keys for 20 dollars rather than 10, just because they know people will pay the extra amount to get the 'better' version.

Can you activate an 8.1 install with an 8 key, actually?
