Hopefully this is untrue but Google does have the cash. This would make me quite sad given what the direction Youtube has gone in recent years.
It's the sort of deal where you know it's probable and you're certainly delighted for the people who are about to become super rich but you hope for your own sake as a viewer that it isn't true or if it is, they'll just leave it the fup alone because its success is down to the fact that it's *not* YouTube.

surely its success is down to the fact that when it was started youtube wasn't anywhere near as easy to live stream on

still isn't afaik, where with twitch you just create an account and you can be masturbating on camera for the world to see until someone closes your account.

I assume there'll be an industry watchdog investigation (after which the deal will be allowed)?

    Good, Twitch runs like ****e.

never tried to strem myself on Youtube but it works on far better on the viewers side.

I've always found Twitch to run very well up until I became a UPC customer, their routing to Twitch is all fupped. On my 17ish Mb Magnet DSL line (it was meant to be 24, the quality of line wasn't good enough for that, but they had the decency and good sense to tell me this before I got the line) I could stream 1080p perfectly all the time day or night, on my 100 Mb UPC I'm lucky if I can get a medium stream to play without stuttering even in off peak hours.

That seems to have improved recently at least.

The current YouTube streaming backend for the streamer is a pain to set up and work with, but it is far better for the viewers as there is quality transcoding options for everyone, and the stream can be automatically turned into a VoD at the same link after the stream finishes (after a processing delay - can be quite a while, mind you). Stream interaction delay is about the same.

cam4 back in the day, when it was good. when slim young swedish women were pissed on by 3 of her friends while they all drank wine and for some reason streamed it all free to thousands of people.

some day I'm going to write a hell of a memoir.
