Dual Oireachtas and EP seat holders

How can incumbent TDs, for example, manage their Dail duties and the added workload of an MEP? Should incumbent TDs or senators be allowed run for office in Europe? I'm as undecided on this as I am on who to vote for in the Ireland South constituency. I can't help but think that maybe the Europe job should be open to those sitting in the Oireachtas as they are already committed. And vice versa. What do you guys reckon?

the only sitting TD [in the south] is Simon Harris who would obviously quit as TD if elected to Europe, a number of further by-elections to be had in the autumn if Hayes gets in Dublin or Ming MNW, (and seanad by-eletions possibly although only oireachtas members vote in that )

That's true of South but there are other TDs running in Dublin and North Midlands. Should they not finish out their Dail terms and follow through on the responsibilities that they have to their current constituents?

Dual Mandate was done away with in 2009. It's no longer allowed.

Once they get elected, they will automatically lose their seat in the Dáil.

The best reason to vote for Ming so far.
