Rats in my house

I live in an estate in Dublin. It is an end of terrace house. A few weeks ago we saw a rat in the kitchen. It ran under the dishwasher (integrated). We saw it (or another one) a couple of days later. We got a pest control company out who did 3 visits for €200. They laid poison traps around and on the 3rd visit none of the bait had been eaten and it seemed sorted. That was two weeks ago.

This evening we saw another one who ran out the same way. We filled up small holes outside etc. The areas behind the presses in the kitchen are veey awkward to get at in terms of checking for any gaps. The pest control guy couldn't locate where they were getting in.

    Anyway some questions:

Do you think the pest control people will come out again without charging?

They advised getting the outside sewer done with smoke, cameras etc to see if there are any holes but it would cost over €300. Is this worth doing?

Finally any other advice would be welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi OP,

Back in the year Oh Dot when we had rats at a rented house in London, the pest control guy told us exactly where they were coming from, and how, what to do about it etc.

Your guys advice seems a bit wishy washy. Like if its the sewer how are they then getting in your house.

Have a look on the farming forum there was a discussion there about rats and a poison that they swear by.

Do you have a cat or Jack Russell?

    No cat or dog alas.

Will be calling them in the morning and see what they say.

    Cheers for the message.

Forget rentokil or whoever you got in. A good rat catcher will close entry points and trap any rats left inside.

I wouldn't go into a house if I knew there was some ratty occupants id be in a hotel until the catcher gave the all clear. In fact id never feel comfortable in there again so id just burn it.

Have you a recommendation for a rat catcher by any chance?
