Very nervous about first-time building, giving the size of investment , so I'm also considering a pre-built PC.

Forget a pre-built system. The higher you go, the worse value they are. You'll learn a lot from building it yourself, and probably get better warranties from the individual components as well. Busy at the minute, but someone will throw a build up before too long.

I'm looking to build a system for around the same amount as yourself. Need it mainly for gaming, Star Citizen, BF4 etc. Was looking at the pre-built systems on PCspecialist.com which look pretty good but really want to built one myself since I have never done so before. Which component sites have you been looking at?

Little hard to construct a build with the info in the op,just not really sure what you would like. But from the budget you would really want to be playing at a higher res than 1080p so would probably include a 1440p/1600p monitor in there and use the rest of the budget to build a rig to power it.

Is that something you would be interested in OP?

Or are you just looking for people to go crazy with the budget and see what comes up?

Personally a nice 1440p monitor(27") would be my preference and there would be plenty left over for a nice PC to run it. Certainly dont go pre built,no value in it in comparison

Personally on that budget there is no point building for 1080p.

If the op wishes for a beast of a rig that will run 1080p without ever breaking a sweat. And save him/her hundreds of euro. That's also another option. Could throw in a hooker with that build.

What kind of video editing would you be looking at? On a professional level or just tricking around? Difference between choosing 4 cores or 6 really on your cpu, also the need of either 16 or 32gb of ram.

Leaves you with 260 euro to get a korean 1440p monitor, not sure what their going price is at the moment but I wasn't very conservative with part picking so you could easily shave money off if needs be.

Only two ram slots used up, so you've got 6 more to add extra ram if needs be (i.e. 16 more gb for video editing and another 32 if you're doing 3d modelling/anything like that and need huge amounts of ram.)

Also overkill on the PSU because if you add another 780ti you'd be over 1k power draw probably.


You could get just as good a build for a thousand less though. You probably don't need socket 2011 though, how much video editing will you be doing?

And you could go much lower than that again especially if you just want a 1080p 24" monitor.

Massive cheers for the help lads! The video editing would be more on tricking around end. I'm going to have to investigate and have a think about what your all saying about the monitors. Seriously massive thanks for the input, makes the whole process a good bit easier!
