Video editing software - to get a snip from an existing video.

    Hi,
    can anyone recommend a good - preferably free video editing program that I can just create a new video from a snippet of an existing one ?

    Terrible software.

    I'm not having a go at you - thanks for the suggestion, but just for other users, it's rubbish, doesn't even regognise mkv.

    Well I wouldn't recommend it for much but I find it handy to use for quick conversions or pulling a 30 second clip out of an hour long video if necessary.

    I don't edit much with .mkv files so don't really know what software handles it easily. Even Avid has trouble with the format I believe.

    I seem to remember VLC had an export function (very clunky though and I can't remember if I've ever used it successfuly) but it does read .mkv files so might be worth a look.

    MKV can be a tricky fella at times.

    For basic raw snipping, either of these 2 appz work fine for me.
