Dry Skin

Hi, I have very dry skin on my face. I use a scrub twice a week and I moisturise. However it is still very dry. When I put on foundation it looks awful. Any suggestions on getting rid of the dry skin. I was thinking of some sort of gel peel. I used to go for facials, but a few days later skin would be dry again.

I use coconut oil sometimes on my face as its good for your skin and very moisturising. I also get quick dry skin. What foundation do you use? I was using Vichy Dermablend for a while as I need good coverage but had to stop as my face was flaking off! Dermalogica have a daily exfoliator, its very mild so doesn't irritate, you could try that. Make sure you're not using any harsh products on your skin.

Neostrada have a bionic face cream that is a super moisturiser...

I have the exact same problem, it's a nightmare.

First off, drink plenty of water every day to keep your skin hydrated. Then, when it comes to applying foundation, what I do is wash my face well with a scrub to try to get off as much flaky skin as possible. Then I use a good primer before applying foundation sparingly with my fingers. I find if I have too much foundation on my fingers it goes into a flaky mess instantly.

I've been trying loads of different foundations lately to figure out which is best for dry skin and the Max Factor Lasting Performance seems to be the winner so far. Garnier BB Cream will always go on my skin nicely, but it doesn't give as good coverage.

The other thing I've noticed is that I never have this problem when I'm on a sun holiday, my skin instantly improves once it gets a bit of Vitamin D, so maybe a vitamin supplement might help the condition of your skin too?

I have the exact same problem and my beautician suggested Agera Skin Peels a course of 6 about 4 months ago. My skin since has been wonderful and no were near as dry and flaky, 100 times better...

I also use a moisturiser from Image Skincare with Vitamin C and this is excellent also really keeps the skin moisturised, they do a masque in it as well which I use once a week...

My skin type changed a few months back from combination oily to just totally dry, still no idea why. I tried a bunch of different things but the only thing that actually worked was La Roche Posay Hydraphase Intense Masque. I need to use it once every 2 or so weeks or my skin goes back to being dry and flakey to the point of not being able to wear any foundation because it looks gross.

foundation can't fix your problem. try days without it cas you skin needs a break. I made the same mistake were I scrubbed my face twice a week. Scrub can be very harsh on your face so try it once a week, and every a two in one cleanser and toner face wash with cold water.

I can highly recommend La Roche Posay Hydraphase Intense Riche. Miraculous, and saw an improvement in my skin overnight. I will never be without it, also not too pricey at €23 I think.

I had dry skin and my foundation (Estee Lauder DoubleWear) would still show up the dry patches.

Now I use Tesco Pro-Formula Cleansing Wash which is really refreshing and gentle. (I used to use Clean & Clear Facial Wash but someone recommended the Tesco one and I'm converted).

After using that, I put on some Johnson's Daily Essentials 24-Hour Day Cream which is AMAZING (I've mentioned it before here) as it leaves your skin really soft AND it works as a kind of primer/base for your foundation.

Let that cream sink in for a few mins..it's really light and silky so it won't take long...and then apply your make-up.

It has worked a treat for me and my skin is so soft now; I get a lot of compliments too!

Some conflicting advice on the thread. I'd recommend some hydrating facials e.g guinot hydradermie. Peels are too harsh this time if year esp with increased uva rays.Stay away from the scrubs use an exfoliating toner a couple of times a week. Mask a few times a week too and try an overnight mask.Invest in a good serum and moisturise 3 times a day. Try an oil/balm/ milky cleansers stay away from anything foaming.Don't use cold water as toner. Take vitamin E capsules.

Using a scrub 2 times a week is doing you no favours OP. I know you want to get rid of the flakiness, but when you scrub you're just going to encourage your skin to flake more and dry out more in the long term.

I'd try using a thick, creamy moisturiser straight after washing your face, waiting a while, and then putting on a lighter primer before putting on foundation (I don't have a recommendation for a thick moisturiser, but Nivea do a great, really light primer). Try to put on foundation as rarely as possible.

First step is to stop using a physical exfoliator (perhaps stick to using it on your body instead). Chemical exfoliation (either an AHA, like lactic or glycolic acid or a BHA, like salicylic acid) is much more gentle and effective. One that's readily available are the Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix pads in Boots. You should notice a difference in skin texture pretty soon!

At night time you could consider using a heavier moisturiser. Nivea cream (in the blue tub/tin) is great (though too heavy and greasy for me to use during the day). After this I put a very thin layer of something occlusive like Vaseline or Aquaphor on dry patches to seal in the moisture.

Make sure you're not taking super hot showers either and be sure to drink plenty of water!

Nivea - the blue tub is the best out there, i've tried very expensive moisturizes like No.7 and benfit. it makes my face red and burny.

I used to have the exact same problem op, tried loads of moistures, hydrating night masks, changing foundations about 100times and I was still flaking!

Eventually I stumbled across clinique moisturizer. (yellow one) and I honestly havnt looked back! I combine it with a nivea cream cleanser and toner in one and it's changed my life!

I now dont even need to moisturize every day! My skin looks great and fresh aswell.
Also I forked out on clinique supermoisture foundation which is brilliant aswell but tbh I could use a normal foundation because the moisturizer is soo good!

I swear by La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume 5, I've very dry sensitive skin and it's the only thing that makes a difference. I was using Mac studio sculpt foundation for the last few months and it left me scaled and broken out. I excerbated the problem by changing my moisturisor to a weleda wild rose one after reading great reviews but it was anything but soothing!!! The only thing that fixed it was not wearing foundation for a couple of weeks and applying the Cicaplast a few times a day. I only exfoliate twice a month now as it's all my skin can handle as I'm always left with a red face for days. The blue nivea is also great but congests me.
