Free channels after cancelling sky

    Hi all,

    Hope someone can help me.

We cancelled Sky and it was cut off today. I took out the card a while ago and turned the sky box back on as I thought this would reset the channels 101 to BBC1, 102 to BBC2 etc but it's still showing up the other listings ie 101 is RTE1 and so on.

Also when I went to channel 135 there was no Channel 4 (or any of the channel 4's) - just that message that comes up to say you need to upgrade your subscription...etc.

Why is this? Do I need to go into Other Channels and set up each individual channel that way? Seems a lot of work each time you want to change a channel!

    Thanks in advance!
    PP :)

Only SD Sky boxes and older HD boxes revert to the UK EPG with the BBC's at the start of the EPG

Have u got a HD box?

If so, u need an old UK Sky card which are available on Adverts and eBay

Thanks Mackersdublin....we have a HD box that's about a year old. Still have an old box stored away somewhere so I might hunt that one out and see if it still works. Thanks a mill! At least I'll be able to see tonight's episode of Fargo on Channel 4! ;)

All cards are the property of sky. You have gust bought stolen property.

Even with the sky card, which only gives an english listing anyway, without rte,
the easiest way to use a sky box as a free to air box is to put all your 50 favourite channels into your favourites option. if you do that no need for a card.

Can you post a link to where this is stated in Sky's T & C's?

According to this online dictionary the word gust is defined as:
    1. a sudden, strong blast of wind.
    2. a sudden rush or burst of water, fire, smoke, sound, etc.
    3. an outburst of passionate feeling.

    :)

I can do better than that and refer you to the small print on the back of sky cards just under the chip:

This card is the property of Sky Subscribers Services Ltd and must be returned upon request.

Oh, and thanks for the vocabulary lesson but the word was just.

That's not what I asked you to link to. The OP has not yet received his card obviously so he cant see the back of it yet you accuse him of buying stolen goods. That's a very serious accusation to make and something you will be able to stand over I trust.

Assuming you cant provide the link as requested can you post a link to the circumstances under which Sky would request the return of the viewing card?

No need to thank me at all. I knew what you meant and I'm sure others did but the actual word you posted was "gust" so I was merely giving you a heads up that it was being used in the wrong context or you simply made a grammatical error. Quite easy to do so I wouldn't worry about it. :)

    I blame his spelling corrector.

Cheers for the heads up Winston. Partaking in criminal activity and didn't even know it. As soon as I receive the card in the post I will hand myself in to the nearest garda station. I endeavour to spend the rest of my days trying to be a more upstanding citizen like yourself.

It is very easy to buy stolen property on auction sites without knowing it. Now that the OP knows it is up to him to take it up with the seller and ebay.

Sky request the return of allegedly faulty cards when they issue a replacement.

Just a thought but wouldn't a "full system restore" solve the problem without the card in?

    Regards

No once the Hd box has an Irish viewing card in it, it becomes locked with the Irish EPG....only way of returning it to the english layout is via use of an FTV card. This is only the case with hd boxes...and std boxes and std old white sky boxes are not affected.

Ok or is that okay (just in case someone says that "ok" is a sauce) --- didn't know that -- thanks

Sky Box free to air old grey box
Thanks for that: no it is not a HD box it is an old grey box with the controls on the top of the box. I know someone who did reset this type of box, I am trying to reset it doing it the same way but it does not work. Putting my finger on back up for a minute keeping my finger on the backup button I plug out box leave this out for a minute keeping finger on backup, plug power back in wait for four light to come on take finger off back up, text on screen will say download will take 10 minutes, power then turns off. When I turn box back on the tv guide is the same all the channels that are not free to air still there. Channels that are on other channels did not transfer which should have happened.
If anyone can help I would be so grateful.
    Thanks so much.
    Mairead

Hello That's not true about the old Sky box I have tried everything to reset an old Sky Box grey or could be called silver controls on top of box. Please check my threads to see what I have tried.
    Thanks in advance

That's the procedure for forcing a software update. I wouldn't think updates are available for really old boxes.

She is attempting to reset the non-subscription Sky non-HD box so that the free UK channels are displayed from 101 upwards.
