Walker Saorview box-to-remote connection problem?

I purchased a Walker Saorview box a few months ago. All was fine until recently when the remote started giving problems. When I turn on the box and tv all is well for a while until the remote stops changing channels, adjusting volume etc.

    I tried the following -

    - replaced the remote batteries several times (problem still there)
    - ordered a new remote from Walker last week (problem still there)

The only solution is to turn off the box and tv, switch it off at the plug and then switch the box and tv on again. All is ok then for maybe 20 minutes when the remote-to-box connection is broken again....and I have to turn off/turn on the box/tv again....and so it goes on.

Is the problem with the box?
Or do I need to re-set/re-program the box?

As it is within warranty I would suggest contacting the seller about the problem.

Sounds like you have a faulty box...

The infra red sensor on the front of the box is shorting.

Return the box to where you bought it.

What is the exact Walker box you have?

Does it have up/down channel buttons on the front and do they also stop working when the remote control stops working? If buttons on the box itself also stop working, it is the box itself that is the problem, not the remote control unit.

Is it the walker Combo box Walker WP645TS-HD (with V3.8) ? - that is prone to freezing up in SatFree mode (remote control stops working and the 3 buttons on the front of the box itself will not work either), - it doesn't happen in regular satellite mode

Is there anyway of fixing this problem in satfree mode. The program guide on satfree is why lots of people want to use that mode over ordinary satellite mode. Having this problem with one at the moment and plugging it out for va period doesn't seem to fix. I've never seen this problem with any of these receivers before regardless whether v3.8 or v2.9.

    Thanks, a y help appreciated

Contact Walker in Dublin. Talks of a new upgrade from 3.8 to fix the freezing problem.

    Thanks.

It seems that the problem is not on all receivers as I've installed a good few and upgraded the firmware and never heard anything back about them.

Installed one the other day and it froze the following day.

I have two of these boxes and have experienced the problem with both. Walker are aware of it and are apparently investigating it.

Query on recording, they say you can set up timers to record a number of programs from a variety of channels but it never works for me. I get the first one but nothing else. Anybody have any ideas please?

Well I got the box back from my client.

powered it up and it froze after about 10 seconds. everything worked fine up to then.
Tried reflashing the v3.8 update, wouldn't do it.

So, powered it off again for few minutes. Then powered it up again and before it got chance to freeze went into first time installation and re-tuned everything. It's still on v3.8 and worked fine all yesterday evening.

Left it on standby all night, turned it on this morning and it's still working fine.

Hopefully this is resolved for me.

Wasn't aware of this recording problem. Is anybody else experiencing it as the box I was talking about in this thread was sold to a client who wants to be able to record.

    Thanks

Just in case I confused anybody let me clarify - you can of course record on this box. However if you set up a number of timers it doesn't work me. For example before going away on holidays I set up a number of timers but only managed to have one in the recordings library on return.

I get the freezing regularly and as I said Walker seem to accept that there is a problem.

I set up five or six different timers there on my one. Some terrestrial and some satfree.

They all recorded fine. Was just using a usb pen drive/memory stick

That's interesting as we can't get it to work. We have a 500GB hard drive connected. Must keep trying.
