Anyone use the dovea bull SEV for breeding replacements, thinking of using him to breed my own replacements on some of my better cows.

Seems to have decent enough maternal/terminal figures

Sounds good. Any issue with docility in hes progeny? A lad from icbf was telling me hes docility wasn't great, but hes figures don't seem to be too bad??

Can you get sexed, or do you think you've a strong chance for a heifer (bull this year)

rang dovea and they don't do him sexed, which is surprising when he is one of their top maternal bulls??

Hopefully get a couple of heifers off him...and ud never know might get twin heifers!!

charolais cows due to the fact I want to inject a bit of milk into the offspring. charolais x Simmental should help with hybid vigour aswell.

Have Simmental cows aswell and would like to use SEV on them, but icbf recommend to mix up the gene pool a bit, and try something different like a maternal limousine or saler on the them

We tried the Simm and didn't really like what we produced, though Newry (KFY) bred well for us. We found the bull calves took a major hit in the mart. And we got more bulls than heifers:)
If you have Lenagh Equalizer (FZM) available to ya dont be afraid to use him.
I'd be slow to use Saler on a Simm cow, I'd be wondering where the muscle and style is gonna come from.
But who knows, shur give it a go and see how ya get on. The world is your oyster with the selection of AI bulls available!

CH x SI are good cows, either way.
Where do you get that info on icbf, with recommend a bull I get FR.

Salers are good cows, milk, muscle d calves & calving ease. LM are good cross too

Have you any heifers of FZM? How are they performing?
Have a bull off LLX, great muscle calf

FZM is breeding lovely stock. He's supposed to have milk but I wont know that till next year!
We used LLX a lot over the years. He wasn't bad. ABI is a serious bull to produce big long well made cattle. He's not suitable for heifers though, fine on cows that you know can calve well. Not a bull to bring milk either.

Thanks for the advice. Its good to hear what other people have done and that they think. id be a bit cautious using limousine for replacements , due to the fact that docility can be an issue with some.. I need a cow that I can handle at 3am!!!

Its a pity that the Simmental bull calf suffers at the mart, cos I think they can be on a par with charolais, but the beef finishers may not agree

Rang icbf, had a few bulls in mind and wanted their opinion, they were fairly good with feedback. They say the saler have great calving ability too. Have you some on the ground

I think Ch are very different animals to Simm.

None of us want a cow that we can't handle, though some of ours are snotty enough. Did you give Blonde a thought at all? We have some super Blonde cows.
I dunno have Dovea any other Blonde outside of KCE? but on a cow with lots of milk I'm sure he'd do a job. They may have another Blonde either?

No never really gave blonde much of a thought, wouldn't be noted for there maternal qualities, but would give ya that muscle and style that you talk about. KCE seems to be probably the best blonde bull out there at the moment. Have you any parthaneise, would give ya bit of shape too.

What type of cow does the business for you

Only ever tried Part once, must chance a couple again.

Several different types of cows work well for us. Generally I'd like a cow with body and length, enough milk to rear her calf well, go in calf and calf easily and be easily handled.
    Not looking for much :-)

Think that's what we all want.
Have a Saler, calved 2 BAX & 1 BBX Bulls unassisted, lots of milk, & good muscle calves.
Was at a Progressive Genetics open day, they say modern BAX do not have milk, was intending some BUH heifers till that. Had an IRX heifer, good muscle, but short (could of been from cow), weighted & Sold well at 13Mts.

But would he take away from Milky cow?
What would be a good material LM / SI to add width for heifers

Yeah, I'd say his daughters would have less milk than their dams.
    Try Equalizer.
