My girlfriend just went into Carphone Warehouse to buy a sim card. The guy at the counter asked if she wanted to buy the sim card and get 10e credit free, or did she want to buy the 10e credit to get the sim card free.

What is this nonsense? Any advertising heads in AH care to explain why these kind of things happen?

Obviously the issue the OP has is that the choices being offered are nonsense!

Are Carphone Warehouse offering a deal on running the gas off the electricity and the electricity off the gas?

Obviously the better deal is buy the sim card and get €10 credit. Presuming the sim card costs €1-2

If you buy the cartons do you get the yoghurt free? Or do you have to buy the yoghurts to get the cartons free? How much is a piece of string these days?

Were both sims for the same provider?

Obviously the better deal is buy the sim card and get €10 credit. Presuming the sim card costs €1-2

But if you just buy the credit and get the sim thrown in for free you'll save that €1-2 in the long run.

You think that's bad, I asked the barman in the Lighthouse cinema last night what time the bar closed and with a straight face and in a monotone voice he said 'Whenever we stop serving drinks'.

I used to work in Carphone Warehouse. This is quite common in the GSM industry. It's the networks who do this NOT Carphone Warehouse.

Sometimes the €10 credit must go on the new number, but even so, the Sales Consultant won't bother putting it on. That way, you can use the credit elsewhere and not have to use the new number.

Free once you paid a tenner for it. Or to look at it another way, if you paid them a tenner for it, it was then free.
