Swapping Trades

Hey lads, I'd like a bit of advice on a career move.

I'm currently employed as an aircraft electronic engineer in a company in Shannon.

I've done a three year college course in Carlow IT then did a four year apprenticeship, getting all the needed qualifications.

I'm finding myself increasingly unhappy in the trade though, I don't enjoy the work about 75% of the time. Getting no job satisfaction and I am, as a whole, miserable in my day to day life.

I think I'd like a career change to work on cars, I do bits and pieces on my own and familys cars when needed. I much prefer it. And it seems like a more attractive industry to work in; normal hours, less paperwork, better job satisfaction, etc.

My question is this; What would I need to do to effectively change trades? Either to Auto electrician or mechanic. Would I need to start all over again? Is there an evening course I could do to get the qualification? Possibly drop in to third/fourth year in the apprenticeship. Do large garages usually look for the apprenticeship or do they take people in with a bit of experience?

Thanks for reading, I know it's a bit of a spiel. Any advice would be appreciated.
