Hi, School year just finished and I'm looking to get a job for this summer. First of all I haven't had a job and I have no idea how to find one, so I'm here to ask some tips to find one. So what's the fastest way to get a job? Online? Call some agencies? or give my CV to every shop?

    Any tips will be welcome!

That's the best way. Also get your parents and relatives to ask around for you too.

Is it okay to give the my CV to the "regular" employees because the manager is in the other branch of the shop? Sorry I'm so ignorant about this stuff.

Generally it is, but it's much better to ask for the manager and put your CV into his hand. That way he knows your face and there's a good chance he'll read your CV. Tell him you're willing to work any hours he has.

Also have someone look over your CV too. Remember it shouldn't be longer than 2 pages and keep all the information relevant. Even a single page will do if that's all you can fill. Don't pad it with useless info.

Whatever you do, don't just wander into a shop/cafe and hand your CV to the first staff member you see mumbling "eh, can I just give ya this?" and then just run away. I worked for years in shops/restaurants/cafes/hotels and couldnt believe the amount of students who do this. It makes such a bad impression and marks you out straight away as not being a people person. Their CV usually went in the bin EVEN if we were looking for staff!

    The best strategy is:

Make sure you look very clean cut and smartly dressed (ie no runners etc)
Plan to go in at a quiet time (ie NOT on a saturday afternoon when staff are busy as you'll barely get looked at)
ALWAYS try and speak with a manager. If you don't see a manager, ask a staff member politely to speak to one.
When they come over, try to ENGAGE with them in a confident and positive way - smile, let them see that you are bright, polite, well-presented and well-spoken I.E well capable of dealing with the public.
Ask if they looking for staff at the moment - more often than not you'll get a "no we're not sorry". Don't just say ah ok thanks anyway. Ask would it be ok to leave your CV with them in case any vacancies arise in the future. You never know, someone might quit on them tomorrow!
If they say yes, then maybe try to say a few positive things about yourself eg hard-worker, fast-learner, can work any hours, great with people etc If you have experience tell them that.

The main aim to create a positive impression of yourself. I know what it's like being a student with no experience and trying desperately for a job. If you've no/little experience the ONLY thing that will get you a job is you personality. So use it! Good luck :)
