    Hi

just purchased 2 pairs of wranglers jeans from USA website and total cost including postage was 77 euro. I was phoned by UPS on Friday and customs are looking for 35 euro on delivery. I was expecting some charge but 35 euro seems a bit steep.

Is that the going rate for 77 euro of goods?

    cheers

Sounds about right to me. If the items are worth more than E22, then duty and VAT are payable.

E112 for two pairs of Wranglers still sounds like a result!

EDIT - Looks as though VAT only has been raised. There's no duty payable as the goods were under E150. Check here and here.

    €77@23%VAT=€17.71

I had thought the max fee they could charge on top of this was €15, but yours is over this. I am not sure if VAT is on that €15 limit or can be added later.

Also they might have used a worse exchange rate.

If it went through an post the added charge would be €6.

But as Fred Swanson pointed out - UPS have also added in an admin/handling charge as well.

    Hi

    just got delivery

    VAT = 17.11
duty = 0 (vat/ duty predicted in this thread )
    other charges 14.50

vat on the vat charge came to 3.34 :-)

UPS must have tacked on the 14.50

It would be ideal if you could somehow pay the extra charges prior to delivery to avoid this rubbish or even better no charges at all for "own use purchases"

Thanks for all the helpful replies on this

    cheers

vat on the ups service charge of 14.50 @ 13.5%

There's no such thing as vat on vat.
